I’m so excited! Krafton just dropped a nearly three-minute trailer for a new game their Montreal studio is working on. They’re calling it Project Windless for now, but it’s based on this amazing Korean fantasy book series called The Bird That Drinks Tears. I’ve been waiting for a game adaptation of that book for ages!
The main conflict in the game appears to be between the Nhaga and other races, and it began with the violent death of a diplomat. Similar to the original book series, the game also focuses heavily on the Nhaga and their connection to hearts.
The trailer begins by establishing the game’s story, then quickly jumps into its exciting, fast-paced action. The sheer number of enemies shown on screen is reminiscent of the Warriors series, but the trailer also suggests that boss battles will demand strategic thinking rather than just rapid button presses.
The main character is a Rekon – a race of rooster-like people – and can fight using various weapons. They’ll be able to wield swords in one hand, dual-wield smaller blades, or use a massive spear. The story centers around winning battles to bring a divided land together and create a new kingdom.
The books were famous for their detailed and immersive worlds. Author Lee Youngdo received a lot of praise for creating unique cultures, languages, religions, and societies for each of the different races featured in the series.
