Okay, so I’m hearing more details are coming out about this week’s State of Play, and apparently it was a HUGE hit – the most-watched one ever! I’m so excited to see what they revealed.
Okay, so the stream absolutely blew up! According to Steam Charts, we hit a peak of three million viewers – it was insane! Apparently, it broke all the records for how many people were watching, across the board. It was a huge success!
The recent YouTube video has now been viewed more times than the PlayStation Showcase from 2021, and is quickly gaining on the viewership of both the 2023 and 2020 PlayStation Showcases.
This broadcast is expected to be one of PlayStation’s biggest successes, second only to their PS5 reveal event.
I was a little disappointed with last week’s poll results. Only 36% of you thought yesterday’s State of Play would be the most-watched one ever. I really believed it would break the record – I would have bet on it!
(In fact, I wish I had now.)
Okay, so the latest showcase in June 2026 absolutely smashed it! It got more views than the previous record holder in less than half a day, and right now it’s at 4.2 million. At this rate, it’s going to blow past the 2021 PlayStation Showcase really soon, and I’m pretty sure it’ll end up even higher than the 2023 one too.
This broadcast is on track to become the most-watched PlayStation presentation ever, except for the original PS5 reveal events in 2020. It might even surpass one of those earlier presentations in terms of viewership.
Before yesterday, the February 2026 State of Play was the most popular, earning 3.4 million views. The series is clearly growing in popularity and has become Sony’s primary way of sharing news and updates.
No matter what you thought of yesterday’s presentation, it’s clear the company running it has perfected this kind of event. Ultimately, success depends on the games they show and what people expect, but these broadcasts are polished, move at a good pace, and respect your time.
Yesterday’s State of Play wasn’t the most amazing presentation ever, but it was still really solid and showed off a lot of games I’m excited about. Plus, after a dedicated deep dive into Phantom Blade Zero, we’ll likely see another broader State of Play in September.
Things have changed a lot since the traditional E3 events. Now that there are gaming showcases happening throughout the year, there’s less pressure to reveal everything at just one show. I believe that’s why Sony held back on announcing ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’ for a while – constantly revealing new things can become excessive.
I think Sony has really perfected the State of Play presentation style and how it unfolds. Now, it all depends on the games and content they show in future presentations. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone, but I’m glad the series is consistently improving and becoming more successful.
