CinemaCon, the annual movie theater owners convention, is happening this week in Las Vegas. Studios are showing off trailers and making announcements about their future films. Sony’s presentation on Monday included updates on expected movies, but also a big surprise: a Bloodborne movie is officially in development, which will excite fans of the popular video game.
Sony is making an animated movie based on the game Bloodborne. The film will be produced by Jacksepticeye and is expected to be rated R. Currently, that’s all the information that’s been released; the movie is still in the early stages of development.
Bloodborne Game Fans Have Long Been Divided About a Movie Adaptation
The announcement of a potential adaptation of the video game Bloodborne is generating both enthusiasm and doubt among its fans. Released in 2015, Bloodborne is an action role-playing game set in the gothic city of Yharnam, where a mysterious blood-borne illness transforms residents into monstrous creatures. Though the game is often ranked among the best video games of all time and draws inspiration from authors like Bram Stoker – with its vampire-like atmosphere lending itself well to a film – fans have long questioned whether its unique atmosphere and complex storytelling could be successfully translated to another medium.
The world of Bloodborne is known for its distinct, dark Gothic atmosphere, which plays a crucial role in the game’s story. Fans worried a live-action adaptation might not capture this effectively. However, with the announcement that it will be animated, it’s more likely the adaptation will be able to faithfully recreate the game’s intricate details and mood. While some fans still hope for a remake or a new game, this animated project is generating a lot of excitement, and hopefully, it will deliver on that promise.
