Red Dead Online Has Been “Immensely Successful And Long-Lasting”, per Take-Two’s CEO

With all the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 this year, it’s easy to overlook the fact that Rockstar’s other popular game continues to be a big success and attract new players.

We’re discussing Red Dead Redemption 2, a Western game that remains popular even though it was released almost eight years ago. While Red Dead Online started as a multiplayer addition, it was successful enough to become its own game and even received updates as recently as last year.

Despite the majority of development efforts shifting to Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick insists that focusing on that game wasn’t a mistake. In an interview with IGN, he explained that Red Dead Redemption 2 selling 85 million copies proves they didn’t miss an opportunity, and that Red Dead Online has been a very successful, ongoing project.

Without Grand Theft Auto, the conversation would likely shift to how successful Red Dead is – and we’re incredibly proud of that franchise. Personally, I think Red Dead is fantastic and really enjoy it. I believe it continues to sell well because it’s truly spectacular entertainment – beautiful and surprisingly modern, even though it’s not a recent release.

We’re optimistic that Rockstar Games hasn’t abandoned the series and might announce their next major game once the hype around Grand Theft Auto 6 calms down – or perhaps even the long-discussed Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster. As for when that might happen, it’s hard to say, but it’s definitely encouraging to see the company speaking so positively about the franchise.
