Rockstar Games is gearing up to launch Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, but their older games are still incredibly popular. According to Take-Two Interactive’s recent financial report, Red Dead Redemption 2 has now sold over 85 million copies since its release in November 2019.
This is a major accomplishment! The game has officially become the third best-selling video game ever, only trailing behind Grand Theft Auto 5 (which has sold nearly 230 million copies). It’s particularly impressive because Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t received any significant updates or expansions lately.
While Red Dead Online did get new features, missions, and roles for players, Rockstar stopped adding content in 2022 to focus on developing Grand Theft Auto 6. There’s been talk of an improved version coming out, but Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet.
Even now, Red Dead Redemption 2 is considered one of the greatest games ever made, consistently earning high praise. It’s had a significant influence on other open-world games, like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Crimson Desert. You can find our full review here, which explains why it remains so popular.
