A remastered version of a classic PlayStation 1 RPG has seemingly been accidentally revealed. The leak came from PEGI, the organization that rates games in Europe. They recently published a rating for a game that hasn’t been officially announced – a new remaster from Bandai Namco. This suggests an official reveal and release are likely coming soon.
We don’t know the exact date Bandai Namco submitted Tales of Eternia Remastered for a PEGI rating, but they recently did. Bandai Namco routinely publishes these ratings, so the leak ultimately falls on them. This leak not only confirms the remaster is happening, but also suggests an announcement and release are coming soon. PEGI typically rates games shortly before release, although remasters are sometimes submitted a little earlier for administrative reasons.
A 26-Year-Old PS1 Exclusive RPG
If you haven’t played Tales of Eternia before, it originally came out in Japan in 2000, but wasn’t released in other regions until 2001. When it first launched, it was only available on the PlayStation 1. It wasn’t until 2006 that it was also released on the PSP, and it hasn’t been updated or ported to any other platforms since then.
This game is the third major installment in the Tales series, which began in 1995. It received a solid 78 score on Metacritic and sold well upon its release. However, when fans discuss the best games in the series, it’s not often mentioned among the top titles, nor was it a major sales success compared to others. This might be why so many other Tales games have been remastered more recently.
The game’s rating doesn’t tell us much about the remaster itself, but it confirms the project is real. We believe Bandai Namco will officially announce it soon, now that the information is public. They haven’t commented on the leak yet, but we’ll update this article if they do.
