Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem is a huge hit! According to analyst Mat Piscatella, the game is already one of the top 5 best-selling Resident Evil titles in the US. Only Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and the original Resident Evil 4 have sold more copies so far.
Considering Resident Evil Requiem launched on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 just a few months ago in February, its sales numbers are very strong.
Last month, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Requiem has sold over 6 million copies. The game also had a very successful launch on Steam, reaching 344,214 peak concurrent players – making it the biggest Resident Evil game launch on PC ever. This surpassed the previous record of 168,191 players, which was set by Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Resident Evil Requiem quickly became a sales phenomenon, selling 5 million copies during its first week – surpassing the previous record of 4.5 million held by Resident Evil 6. Other recent games in the series have also performed exceptionally well; Resident Evil 2 Remake sold 3 million copies in its launch week, and Resident Evil 4 Remake reached 3 million sales in only a few days.
In March, Piscatella reported that Resident Evil Requiem was the best-selling game in the US so far this year. Sales were roughly 40% higher than those of the previous major Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Village. However, these figures only cover the game’s sales during its first month of release.
The newest Resident Evil game, Requiem, features a new main character named Grace Ashcroft. She becomes entangled in a conspiracy linked to the past actions of the Umbrella Corporation. The game also brings back Leon S. Kennedy, who is investigating a separate case involving Victor Gideon. Players switch between playing as Grace and Leon, with Grace’s sections emphasizing the scary, survival horror elements of the series, and Leon’s focusing more on action-packed gameplay.
Capcom is planning more content for Resident Evil Requiem, and recent discoveries suggest the popular Mercenaries mode might be included. A data analysis of the game’s files revealed ten unused music tracks, which likely indicate preparation for upcoming additions and potentially the Mercenaries mode.
The Mercenaries mode, a fast-paced, action-packed experience, has been a recurring feature in Resident Evil games since its debut in Resident Evil 4. Though not all games include it – particularly those focused on horror, like Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 2 Remake – it was last seen in the more action-oriented Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village.
Okay, so I just checked, and Resident Evil: Requiem is seriously flying off the shelves! It’s already become one of the top 5 best-selling Resident Evil games ever, when you look at how much money it’s made in the US. It’s only behind the big hitters like Resident Evil 5, the new Resident Evil 4 (2023), Village, and the very first Resident Evil 4. That’s pretty wild for a game that’s only been out for two months!
