Guerrilla announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new co-op multiplayer game based on the Horizon series, earlier this year, but it received a lot of criticism online.
We felt that initial reaction was a bit hasty. Based on what we’ve seen, this project has a lot of promise, and we actually think the unique art style is really well done.
The game’s social media pages recently posted some new gameplay footage of the Cauldron Descent mode, and it looks really enjoyable.
Okay, so this game mode feels a lot like playing Hades. You basically keep going deeper into this dungeon, unlocking new rooms as you go. Each room has its own challenges, and beating them gets you stronger – better gear, new abilities, that kind of thing – all to prepare you for a tough boss at the very end. It’s a really cool progression system!
If Guerrilla Games adds satisfying improvements that let players customize their characters in significant ways, this mode has the potential to be very enjoyable and offer a lot of replay value.
For what it’s worth, we still reckon the visuals look great in these clips.
The biggest test for Hunters Gathering will be seeing how players react to it during the pre-release beta testing phase.
If the game is enjoyable and keeps you wanting to play just one more round, it has a good chance of being a success. We expect it will be fun, as it’s made by Guerrilla, the studio behind two highly-rated action RPGs with engaging combat, and they have a strong background in multiplayer games.
A great game doesn’t matter if no one plays it, but Horizon is a well-known franchise – it’s sold over 40 million copies – so it already has a built-in audience.
We’re excited for the game to launch and hope everything comes together well! What are your thoughts on Horizon Hunters Gathering so far? And what do you think of this latest preview? Share your feedback in the comments below!
