In Resident Evil Requiem, a new villain named Victor Gideon is introduced. Want to know more about the villain Victor Gideon and his history? We’ll share some of his backstory. Be warned, this article contains minor spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem, though we won’t reveal everything that happens to Gideon in the game.
Victor Gideon’s Backstory Explained

Gideon rose to prominence as a researcher at Umbrella Corp, playing a key role in the development of the T-Virus that ultimately caused the Raccoon City outbreak. He deeply admired Umbrella’s founder, Oswell Spencer, and devoted his career to furthering Spencer’s work. This led him to seek out Elpis, one of Spencer’s final projects, believing it held the key to the next step in human evolution – a goal Spencer had pursued throughout his life.
After the Raccoon City outbreak, Gideon relocated his research to Rhodes Hill hospital, which he had obtained. There, he continued experimenting on subjects with the T-Virus, hoping to learn more about Elpis and push the virus’s capabilities even further.
After carefully reviewing Spencer’s notes, Gideon discovered that Grace Ashcroft seemed crucial to finding Elpis. He planned to attract Grace to the Wrenwood Hotel—the site of her mother Alyssa’s death—and kidnap her. Once he had Grace at Rhodes Hill, he ran tests that confirmed his theory about her connection to Elpis.
Gideon Is as Intelligent as He Is Powerful

Gideon isn’t just incredibly intelligent; he’s also remarkably strong and physically imposing. He gained these abilities by injecting himself with a modified T-Virus, which increased his strength and size, though it did change his appearance. Importantly, the virus didn’t affect his mind, making him a threat both intellectually and physically.
Gideon has distinctive goggles that he designed himself. They let him rapidly scan his environment and instantly receive crucial information, becoming a signature part of his look and identity.
Gideon is easily one of the most dangerous villains in the Resident Evil series. Unlike many enemies who are just powerful monsters, Gideon is smart, ruthless, and incredibly strong – rivaling other major villains. He’s a serious threat to Leon and Grace, and they’ll need to be at their best to stand a chance.
