Zach Cregger, the writer and director known for the hit horror film Barbarian and last year’s critically acclaimed Weapons (which earned $269 million despite a small budget), has revealed the first trailer for his next project: a Resident Evil movie. Weapons generated a lot of buzz before its release, with audiences speculating about its meaning.
What to expect from the Resident Evil trailer…
The new Resident Evil film promises a fresh, scary take on the popular series. It tells the story of Bryan (Austin Abrams), a delivery driver who gets caught up in a desperate fight for survival when a terrifying night unfolds around him.
Zach Cregger recently told the Hollywood Reporter that he only wants to direct films he’s personally written. He feels strongly about being involved in the entire creative process, and believes this dedication could be what finally leads to a successful “Resident Evil” movie – a franchise that hasn’t seen much critical acclaim. He emphasized that his upcoming “Resident Evil” film is a completely original story, separate from previous installments, and that he’s proud of the unique and unconventional narrative he’s created. Cregger also has a science fiction film and another project in the works that he describes as similar in tone to “Nightcrawler,” but all are based on his own original screenplays. He’s in a position where agents don’t even bother sending him scripts written by others, as he prefers to bring his own stories to life.
