Resident Evil’s New Trailer Reveals Zach Cregger’s Vision For Horror Franchise

At CinemaCon, Sony showed off the first look at the new Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger. The footage suggests this reboot will be a much darker version of the classic series.

A new live-action Resident Evil movie is coming to theaters on September 18, 2026. Instead of retelling a story from the popular video games, this film will feature a completely original plot with brand new characters. The story centers around Bryan, a delivery driver portrayed by Austin Abrams, who gets caught up in a dangerous viral outbreak at a hospital in Raccoon City.

I saw this guy walking through the snow, and he knocked on someone’s door, saying his car had broken down and he needed to use the phone. He called someone, but it just went to voicemail. Then things got really strange. I watched him run into a barn and start looking for weapons. He found a body, and after that, he was down in the sewers, where he came across this huge figure just sitting there. He ran back out into the snow, and I even saw him locking what looked like zombies in a room. Finally, he ended up in a city, and it was horrifying – bodies were falling from the skyscrapers, landing right on top of parked cars. It was a truly terrifying experience.
