See Cher’s Rare Met Gala Return After 11 Years

Cher has returned to the Met Gala, after all.

The 79-year-old returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s front steps for the first time since her unexpected appearance at the 2019 gala, which celebrated the theme of “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”

Following this year’s “Fashion is Art” theme, Cher arrived at the New York City museum on the first Monday in May wearing a striking all-black outfit. Her look included a leather top, a high-slit skirt, and a lace bodysuit. She completed the ensemble with custom jewelry from Chrome Hearts and Swarovski, and styled her bleached blonde hair in soft waves.

This is the first time Cher has walked the Met Gala red carpet since 2015, when she attended the “China: Through The Looking Glass” event with Marc Jacobs.

Although Cher went to the Gala in 2019, she skipped the red carpet and the photographers, and was only seen inside the event.

Cher captivated the audience at the museum’s Temple of Dendur with a performance of her hits, including “Waterloo,” “Strong Enough,” and “Believe.” She paired edgy, patched jeans with a vibrant hot pink silk top and a black leather jacket, completing the look with a voluminous, bleached blonde curly wig.

After briefly changing outfits, the star of Moonstruck returned to the stage wearing a sparkling, see-through bodysuit and a blue wig to sing “Found Someone” and “Turn Back Time.”

Once the singer completed her performance, RuPaul took over as the DJ for the remainder of the night.

The performer for this year’s Met Gala is still a secret, as it usually is until the event, but attendees can look forward to a fantastic night! Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams will join Anna Wintour as co-chairs.

Beyoncé’s return to the gala is a big deal, as she hasn’t been since 2016 when she attended the “Manus x Machina” exhibit wearing Givenchy Haute Couture. Like Cher, her presence always makes a statement.

Oh my gosh, Nicole and Venus? They’re always at the Met Gala, it’s amazing! I was so thrilled to see them both at the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” event in 2025 – seriously, they never miss it, and they always look incredible. It felt so right seeing them there!
