In Season 5 of The Boys, Jared Padalecki makes a quick but funny appearance as Mister Marathon. While the episode definitively concludes his character’s story—especially for fans of Supernatural—there’s still a chance he could reappear in future installments of the series. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 5, Episode 5! The latest episode, titled “One-Shots,” focuses on several different characters. It gives Firecracker a fitting farewell and even hints at some remaining goodness in Billy Butcher. But the most memorable part of the episode is when Homelander and Soldier Boy visit Mister Marathon in LA, hoping to learn about V1—a meeting that ends violently.
When the heroes meet Mister Marathon, they stumble upon a gathering hosted by Misha Collins’ character, Malchemical, and find several Hollywood actors playing poker. This isn’t the first time stars from Supernatural have appeared in The Boys, and it leads to a funny reunion between Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, and Jensen Ackles. The heroes try to persuade Soldier Boy to take down Homelander and take control of The Seven, but he refuses. A chaotic fight ensues, and unfortunately, all the guest stars end up dying. It seems like we won’t be seeing these characters again, including Padalecki’s Mister Marathon, though there are a few possibilities for his return in the future.
How Jared Padalecki’s Character Could Return in The Boys’ Future

Jared Padalecki’s character, Mister Marathon, might not survive the fifth season of The Boys, specifically episode 5. While it’s a long shot, there’s a chance he could reappear. With only three episodes remaining to tie up loose ends from Gen V and conclude the main plotlines, focusing on Mister Marathon seems unlikely. However, considering his past with The Seven, flashbacks could offer a way to explore his history with Homelander. Still, bringing him back now would be difficult and would need to be handled carefully to fit naturally into the story.
As a big fan of The Boys, I’m still hoping we haven’t seen the last of Mister Marathon! While Gen V sadly got cancelled, it sounds like Amazon isn’t giving up on the whole Vought universe. They’re already planning a spin-off focusing on Soldier Boy, and a The Boys: Mexico series too. Those projects probably won’t have time for a Mister Marathon appearance right now, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for future spin-offs. There’s so much potential there – the history between Padalecki’s character and Homelander is really intriguing, and I’d love to learn more about the early days of The Seven, like who else was kicked off the team or didn’t make the cut before the show even began. It would add a whole new layer to the story!
It Will Be Hard for the Franchise to Top Mister Marathon’s First Appearance

Bringing back Mister Marathon to The Boys universe could be tricky, even though there’s potential for it. Jared Padalecki’s first appearance was nearly perfect and beautifully connected both The Boys and Supernatural, making it hard to repeat that success. While the character has some interesting possibilities, another appearance wouldn’t generate the same excitement as the recent Supernatural reunion and might feel contrived. If the show does revisit him, it needs to feel organic to his story, not just a way to get Padalecki back on screen. The cameo we already got was excellent, so any future appearances need to be handled carefully.
