This reunion was anything but a horror story.
After ending their engagement seven years ago—following a relationship of over four years—Emma Roberts and Evan Peters, who both starred in American Horror Story, were seen together publicly at the Disney Advertising Upfront event on May 12th.
Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and Angela Bassett joined the former couple onstage at North Javits in New York City to reveal that Paul Anthony Kelly will be joining the cast of the FX show for its thirteenth season.
For the event, actress Emma Roberts (known for her role in Scream Queens and mother to 5-year-old Rhodes Robert Hedlund with her ex-partner, Garrett Hedlund) wore a short black Blumarine dress. The dress featured red roses and decorative buttons down the front.
Evan, who was last seen with Natalie Engel in 2024, dressed simply for the occasion in black pants, a white t-shirt, and a teal jacket.
Ugh, when Emma and Evan broke up in February 2019, it was so hard seeing her deal with it publicly. I mean, she talked about how tough it was to go through that whole thing with everyone watching, and honestly, it just broke my heart for her. It was such a difficult time, and I really felt for her having to navigate it all in the spotlight.
She told Cosmopolitan that she prefers to keep her relationships private. She explained that it’s difficult enough navigating a relationship without public scrutiny, and she longs for the simple ability to have private, personal moments. She finds growing up and dealing with relationships challenging and sometimes upsetting when she can’t have those private experiences.
Ugh, it’s just SO frustrating! Seriously, with Twitter and Instagram, everyone thinks they know everything about what she’s up to, and they just leave comments everywhere! It’s like, they don’t see what’s really going on, you know? It’s honestly really hard for her when everyone’s judging without knowing the full story. I just wish they’d stop and think for a second!
Evan and Emma had a rocky relationship. In 2013, before their engagement the following year, Emma was arrested and accused of domestic violence against her boyfriend, according to reports from TopMob News.

The actress was initially arrested after witnesses reported something, but she was released quickly and wasn’t charged with any crime, according to reports.
Okay, so apparently there was a whole thing, a big misunderstanding, according to their people. I was SO worried! But thankfully, they said Julia was let go after talking to authorities, and she and Lyle are working it out. Honestly, it’s such a relief! I’m just glad it wasn’t as bad as it looked and they’re trying to get past it together. I knew they could!
Emma and Evan aren’t the only former couples who’ve become friends. Here are some other celebrities who successfully stayed close to their exes.

There’s absolutely no chance they’ll get back together. However, with all the recent interactions – birthday celebrations, affectionate hugs, and even playfully acting out a romantic scene in a virtual reading of Fast Times at Ridgemont High – it feels like they’re just teasing everyone who’s hoping for a reunion.

It takes a certain level of confidence to playfully tease your ex on his own show. That’s exactly what Sarah did when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show to promote her new series, I Love You, America. She jokingly ribbed Jimmy about his wife, Molly Kimmel, saying, “It’s not fair! She gets the updated, more socially aware Jimmy. I only got the old Man Show Jimmy.”

Honestly, some people seemed more upset about this relationship ending than the people involved! When Anna—who is now married to Michael Barrett—found out Chris Pratt was marrying Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019, she volunteered to perform the ceremony. She even sent a gift when their daughter, Lyla, was born in August 2020. A source shared with TopMob News that Anna was “very supportive” and excited for her son, Jack, to have a little sister.

Their breakup could have easily led to disaster, but four years later, these HGTV stars are thriving. They’re successfully co-parenting their children, Taylor and Brayden, and continuing to renovate dilapidated houses into beautiful homes for others.

Lenny Kravitz and his ex-wife, actress Zoë Kravitz’s mother, describe their relationship as a close, familial bond – what he called “best friends” in a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey. Despite their divorce and her subsequent marriage to and split from Jason Momoa in 2020, they maintain a happy and supportive connection. As Lenny put it, it’s a beautiful example of how things can work out positively even after a relationship ends.

Since the Dancing With the Stars co-host and retired hockey player separated in 2020, they’ve consistently shown everyone they remain friendly.
When Brooks announced he was getting married to Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir in December 2024, Julianne publicly shared her excitement on Instagram. She wrote a message wishing them both a lifetime filled with love, happiness, and fun adventures as they start this new chapter together.
The dancer, her ex-husband, and his pregnant fiancée spent a day together at the lake. She shared a photo of the four of them, calling them “three cuties” and describing it as a special day.

Since separating in 2015, the parents of Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel have successfully co-parented, managing to share vacations, holidays, and publicly support each other. In a 2016 interview with TopMob News, Ben praised his ex-partner as “an amazing mother.”

Nina and Ian dated for three years before splitting up in 2013, but they stayed friends. The following year, Nina began dating Nikki Reed and they quickly got married. As a result, Nina became friends with Nikki, who is known for her role in the Twilight films.

The couple ended their five-year relationship in July 2016. The singer later shared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show the following October that she remained very close to her ex, describing him as both a former lover and a long-time friend.
“We love each other,” she said. “That’s it.”

Even years after The Office ended in 2013, the chemistry between its stars remained apparent, and Mindy Kaling understands why fans still root for them as a couple. In a 2019 interview with Good Housekeeping, she explained that while choosing him to be godfather to her children, she’d feel the same way if she were an outside observer. However, she clarified that their relationship has evolved into something more akin to family than just friendship.

After their divorce was finalized in 2011, the former couple easily continued to raise their son, Bronx. The Fall Out Boy singer has praised his ex-wife, calling her a fantastic mother.

It sounds like she’s moved on from her past relationship with the singer. He’s described their current connection as a friendly one, saying they maintain a good relationship.

Jennifer and her Dexter co-star first became acquainted on the set of the show in 2006, and their relationship turned romantic two years later. Even after their divorce in 2011, Jennifer later confirmed they remained on good terms, with “nothing but love and respect” for each other.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are famous for having a friendly post-divorce relationship, and it’s no surprise they decided to quarantine together with their daughters, Rumer, Tallulah, and Scout, at their Idaho home. Sounds like they’re making the best of it – maybe even with a dance party!

Even four years after their 2014 split, Jennifer Lopez continued to praise her ex-husband, and the father of her twins, Max and Emme. In a 2018 interview on Sunday Today, she shared how Marc Anthony boosted her confidence during their marriage. He constantly reminded her of her talent, telling her, ‘You’re a great singer. Don’t ever let anybody tell you you’re not.’ Lopez deeply respected him, considering him one of the greatest singers ever.

Despite any personal struggles he might be facing, the actress will always support her ex-husband and former Scream colleague. Eight years after their 2010 divorce, she told Bear Grylls on Running Wild, “Honestly, it was a really amicable split.” She added that they’ve successfully co-parented their daughter, Coco, saying, “We work well together as parents.”

Although their relationship ended in 2007, they still had great chemistry on screen when they starred together in the 2011 film Bad Teacher.

Although the actors had a difficult time immediately following their 2013 separation, they’ve now reached a point where they can vacation together as a group. The Twilight star shared with LaPalme Magazine that a 2017 trip to Cancun included his ex-wife’s husband, Garth, as well as Dave Abrams, Peter’s fiancée Lily Anne Harrison, and their three daughters, Luca, Lola, and Fiona. He also spoke about his relationship with Jennie, explaining, “People enter your life for a reason, and relationships evolve. Just because you’re not living with someone doesn’t mean you can’t still care for them.”

Even though they unexpectedly separated in September 2012, the couple worked to appear supportive of each other for the sake of their children. In a 2014 interview with Howard Stern, she explained that she and Will remained very close friends and were successfully co-parenting. She didn’t view their ten-year marriage as a failure, believing that all relationships face challenges.

I’ve been following these two for a while now, and it’s so great to see how well they’re handling things even after their divorce finalized earlier this year. They really seem to prioritize their son, Hayes, and it makes co-parenting so much easier that they live just around the corner from each other – only five minutes apart, apparently! It’s a testament to their maturity, honestly.
“Our stops are really easy,” Maren told The Zoe Report in May 2025, “and we’ll have family dinners.”
