It’s a trend in Hollywood: studios are obsessed with reviving old favorites. We’ve seen a lot of announcements lately – sequels to movies like Commando and Conan starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Cop Land TV series from James Mangold, and a new Miami Vice show with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. Industry leaders seem to prefer revisiting established franchises, because they already have built-in audiences. That’s why the recent cancellation of a project feels so surprising.
Peacock has cancelled its planned sequel to the beloved 1995 comedy Clueless, just under a year after it was first announced, according to Variety. Details about the show were never released, except that it would have featured Alicia Silverstone reprising her role as Cher Horowitz as an adult. Considering Cher was 16 in the original film, she would now be in her late 40s – a sobering thought! Unfortunately, the show won’t be moving forward on Peacock.
There is Still Hope For Clueless’ Sequel

Good news for fans disappointed by the cancelled Clueless sequel: Variety reports it might not be over. CBS Studios and Paramount are still very enthusiastic about the project and believe its strong fanbase will attract plenty of interest when they start looking for a new home for it. There’s still a chance it could be revived!
In a memorable 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten, Alicia Silverstone reprised her role as Cher Horowitz from Clueless, appearing alongside Elisa Donovan, who played her rival Amber Mariens. The commercial cleverly showed Cher as having grown up, but still retaining the core personality fans love. While it was unknown if other original cast members like Paul Rudd, Donald Faison, Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer, or Justin Walker would make an appearance, the ad served as a heartwarming revival of the iconic character. Sadly, Brittany Murphy, who played Tai Frasier, passed away in 2009.
If you absolutely loved Clueless and want more, you should know about the TV show that came out in 1996! It ran for three seasons on ABC and brought back a lot of the original cast, though Alicia Silverstone wasn’t involved. Rachel Blanchard stepped into the role of Cher, and it even had a fun crossover episode with Sabrina the Teenage Witch! It’s tough to find streaming now, but thankfully someone uploaded the whole first season to YouTube, so you can still check it out.
