The highly anticipated game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available on PC and has received fantastic reviews, with strong player numbers on Steam. However, it might be a unique case, as reports suggest Sony may stop releasing its big, single-player games on PC. For instance, Ghost of Yōtei was reportedly planned for a PC release, but those plans were cancelled.
Although Sony could still change its mind, reports suggest they’re planning to officially confirm their current position soon. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this confirmation could happen during an investor call or even when Housemarque, the developers of Saros, are promoting the game and are asked if it will be released on PC – at which point they’re expected to say no.
Considering the issues some recent PlayStation games like Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have had when released on PC, it’s not surprising Sony is being more cautious. It’s also possible they don’t want their games to work on Microsoft’s Project Helix, the upcoming console designed to play both Xbox and PC titles.
While most PlayStation Studios games will likely remain exclusive, Sony isn’t ruling out releasing some titles on both PlayStation and PC, like the upcoming Horizon Hunters Gathering. It’s clear Sony recognizes the importance of having strong, single-player games that are only available on their consoles.
We’re still awaiting official confirmation, but here’s the latest: Saros is scheduled to release on April 30th for PlayStation 5, and Marvel’s Wolverine will follow on September 15th. Keep an eye out for more details!
