After canceling their online multiplayer God of War project last year, Sony’s Bluepoint Games appears to be hiring again, suggesting they’re starting work on a new project.
The team known for their excellent remasters – they haven’t led a new game since Demon’s Souls, but recently assisted Santa Monica Studio with God of War Ragnarok – is now hiring a Senior Combat Designer. They’re looking for someone with a strong background in designing close-up, third-person action games.
The job specification says:
Collaborate with artists, designers, and engineers to create compelling enemy and boss characters and improve our combat systems. We’re looking for someone who can work effectively on their own and as part of a team, and who can share their ideas and experience to help us make our next game the best it can be.
Many people have quickly linked the idea of “third-person melee combat” to the game Bloodborne, though this connection seems to be based more on hope than actual evidence.
The Senior Level Designer position also requires someone who can fine-tune important parts of the game, such as events, how players interact with things, challenges, puzzles, and how objects bump into each other.
Honestly, everything points to a new God of War game. The descriptions mentioning “third-person melee action” and “puzzles” just scream God of War to me. That’s where my head’s at, anyway!
As we’ve already discussed, Bluepoint Games has recently concentrated its efforts on the world of Kratos and his adventures, working on both a previously cancelled online game and contributing to the development of God of War Ragnarok.
The best news is that development is restarting after being put on hold last year, and they’re now hiring for a new project.
No matter what happens next, this is a much better result than if the studio had been forced to close – a possibility after their last project was cancelled.
