The new Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is becoming one of the biggest and most ambitious projects Marvel has done since the Avengers: Endgame. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside a large cast of popular characters, including the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). Fans have been curious if Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner would transform back into the Hulk, but Marvel hadn’t confirmed it—until now. The answer unexpectedly came through a reveal in promotional merchandise.
Hasbro has revealed a new line of Spider-Man: Brand New Day toys at CinemaCon 2026, including action figures and role-playing items featuring popular characters like Spider-Man and Hulk. The toys confirm the return of the Savage Hulk to the big screen, with a featured “Savage Smash Hulk” figure and an electronic mask. Hasbro emphasized the toys are designed based on the new Marvel Studios film and will allow kids to recreate scenes and invent their own adventures. The focus on specific movie moments strongly suggests that the Hulk will revert to his Savage form as a key part of the movie’s plot.
It’s About Time for the (Real) Hulk to Return to the MCU

The way Smart Hulk was introduced in Avengers: Endgame made it seem unlikely that Marvel Studios could ever truly bring the character’s most interesting comic book stories to life. By combining Bruce Banner’s intelligence with the Hulk’s strength permanently, the movies removed the inner struggle that makes the Hulk so compelling – the idea of a fractured mind with different personalities fighting for control, representing psychological trauma. Turning the Hulk into a predictable ally, while helpful, made him much less complex. But now, with the return of the classic, untamed Hulk, it looks like the MCU is finally ready to explore that powerful and dramatic potential again.
The timing of Hulk reverting to his more primal form fits perfectly with the story direction of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie’s trailer hints at changes to Spider-Man’s powers, specifically the possibility of him developing organic web-shooters. Given that the film seems to be about mutations and Peter Parker losing control over his body, a newly savage Hulk creates a strong and fitting parallel. Both Bruce Banner and Peter Parker will likely explore similar struggles, connected by their inability to control transformations happening at a genetic level. This could be the start of a compelling new direction for the Hulk, one that surprises and excites fans.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
