Fans always eagerly anticipate the costumes in new superhero movies, even when it’s a sequel in an established franchise. Filmmakers often update the designs, which has become a tradition in the genre. While new costumes mean more merchandise opportunities for the studio, they can also visually represent a character’s development. This is true for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a film that marks a fresh start for Peter Parker.
When filming began on Brand New Day last year, Marvel showed off Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man costume, which is inspired by the suits worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Although this will be Holland’s primary suit in the movie, he’ll be wearing more than one. The X (formerly Twitter) account Hulk News shared images of Brand New Day Funko Pop figures, including one showing Peter Parker in the Spider-Man suit he wore at the end of No Way Home. You can see the post below.

Why Spider-Man Has Two Different Costumes in Brand New Day
The two Spider-Man figures have noticeably different suits. The lower one is made to look like the textured suit worn by Tobey Maguire in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. While the suit from No Way Home also has a web pattern, it’s not as pronounced. Some fans might be confused to see merchandise of an older suit, especially since Marvel and Sony heavily promoted Tom Holland’s new suit before the film came out. This likely means the story is structured in a way that explains the appearance of both suits, possibly referencing the Brand New Day storyline.
The new Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, takes place four years after the events of No Way Home, but won’t cover the entire timeline after that time jump. Rumors suggest the film will feature a montage of Spider-Man fighting less significant villains, similar to the beginning of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This would be a quick way to show viewers what Spider-Man has been doing and set up the story for his character. Leaked merchandise hints that the montage might start with Spider-Man in his No Way Home suit, then transition to his new suit to visually show the passage of time.
It will be interesting to see if the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, explains why Peter Parker decided he needed a new suit. Some superhero sequels have offered in-universe reasons for costume changes – for example, Bruce Wayne needed a more flexible suit in The Dark Knight. Tom Holland has hinted that Peter’s experiences in No Way Home, fighting alongside other versions of himself, inspired the new design. The suit seems to include details Peter particularly likes, and this could be his way of looking up to and taking inspiration from those other Spider-Men.
The costume could add emotional weight and complexity to the character. The trailer for Brand New Day shows Peter Parker is struggling emotionally and feeling isolated. Even though his life is difficult, he still has a duty to protect New York, just like the previous Spider-Men did despite their own problems. Given the context of the MCU and the Brand New Day storyline, making Tom Holland’s new suit look similar to Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s could help remind him of what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
