Good news for Stranger Things fans! The popular stage play, ‘The First Shadow,’ will be filmed and available to stream on Netflix, meaning the story of Hawkins isn’t over yet.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” takes place 24 years before the popular Netflix series, revealing the early lives of Jim Hopper and Joyce Maldonado. It also delves into the disturbing history of Henry Creel. The play originally premiered in London in 2023 before moving to Broadway.
Performances from February 10th to 14th have been cancelled to allow for filming. Netflix hasn’t announced when the filmed version will be available yet.
The show will be performed by members of the original Broadway cast, including Louis McCartney as Henry Creel, TR Knight as Victor Creel, Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby, and Alex Breaux as Dr. Brenner. Notably, Alex Breaux also appeared as Lieutenant Robert Akers in the last season of Stranger Things.

Fans will likely be happy to hear the story is going back to Hawkins. The ending of season 5 wasn’t popular with everyone – Vecna’s defeat felt a little underwhelming, and the final moments with Eleven left things unclear.
I was really surprised to hear that even Matthew Modine, who played Dr. Brenner, wasn’t thrilled with how the show ended! It’s wild to think someone so involved in the series didn’t totally love the finale.
However, the franchise is ploughing on, with animated spin-off Tales From ’85 on its way.
Speaking with Deadline, co-creator Ross Duffer shared that the planned spin-off won’t focus on Holly and the younger characters. He described it as a much smaller story, and while still in the early stages of development, confirmed it will explore a completely new storyline and set of characters.
This show is connected to the original series and will address questions viewers still have, especially those left unanswered by the finale. The spin-off will explore these points, but it also has its own unique story and world-building.
