Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Officially Fixes The Big Bang Theory’s Biggest Leonard Crime After 10 Years

After ten years, the podcast Stuart Saves the Universe is addressing a major issue with The Big Bang Theory and how it treated Leonard. Johnny Galecki was one of only two original cast members from the show’s initial concept, before it was revised for CBS. The Big Bang Theory originally centered on the friendship between Leonard and Sheldon. The show later expanded to include Penny, Howard, and Raj, after a reworked pilot episode was created.

Although Leonard was central to the beginning of The Big Bang Theory, his importance decreased as the show went on. The early seasons revolved around the dynamic between Sheldon and Leonard’s unrequited feelings for Penny. As the series continued and focused more on Sheldon, Leonard’s character felt increasingly sidelined. His most engaging storyline was likely the build-up to his wedding with Penny in 2016, after which his plots became less prominent and often served as supporting stories.

Adding insult to injury, the show Young Sheldon completely ignored Leonard’s importance to Sheldon’s life story. While other The Big Bang Theory characters like Howard and Amy made appearances in Sheldon’s biographical episodes, Jim Parsons’ character, Leonard, was left out. Fortunately, the new series Stuart Saves the Universe is now addressing that oversight.

How Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Acknowledges Leonard’s Importance

Unlike any previous show in The Big Bang Theory universe, the sequel series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe features a completely new main cast. While the original characters from Pasadena won’t be series regulars, the new show is still connected to them. The trailer reveals that Leonard, Sheldon, and Howard invent something that Stuart breaks, causing trouble across multiple universes.

As a big fan, I’m really enjoying seeing Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki working together again! It’s great that Galecki’s character is getting a strong storyline, and their scientific collaboration feels like a natural step after The Big Bang Theory. While I totally get why the creators ended the show with Sheldon and Amy as a couple, a part of me always thought it would have been incredibly satisfying – and honestly, a little more emotionally resonant – if Leonard and Sheldon had been the ones to win the Nobel Prize. It just felt like a fitting conclusion to their journey as best friends and colleagues.

It would have been great to see these actors share the screen before the CBS comedy finished. However, at the very least, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe gives us a welcome update on their friendship, which was particularly needed after the perceived slight on Young Sheldon. Plus, it raises the possibility of Jim Parsons (and others involved with the device’s story) returning to the show, even if just for a brief appearance.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will release all 10 episodes on July 23, 2026, on HBO Max
