Tatiana Maslany’s MCU She-Hulk Return Requires This 1 Condition

Tatiana Maslany reprising She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes with a stipulation.

She-Hulk, also known as Jennifer Walters, has been a popular character in Marvel comics for almost 50 years, so it was expected she’d eventually appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She made her MCU debut in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but hasn’t been seen since. Now, the actress who plays her has shared what it would take for her to reprise the role of Bruce Banner’s cousin.

Tatiana Maslany, who has recently appeared in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and lent her voice to Invincible, discussed revisiting her role as She-Hulk in an interview with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant while promoting Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. She described the character’s future as “open-ended” and suggested that Jessica Gao would be the best person to ask about what’s next for She-Hulk.

Maslany explained that for her to reprise the role, the story would need to focus on current events, as She-Hulk’s ability lies in recognizing and commenting on what’s happening in the world.

That’s a really open question. I think Jessica Gao, the showrunner, would be the best person to ask, as she truly understands the show’s tone and the character’s journey. But if there were to be a continuation, it would definitely need to address current events. That’s really She-Hulk’s strength – pointing out what’s happening in the world around us.

When She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiered, most Marvel TV shows were designed as limited series with only one season. The show quickly transformed Jennifer into a large, green superhero similar to her cousin, and Mark Ruffalo returned as Bruce Banner in several episodes. Instead of focusing solely on superhero action, though, Jennifer continued her career as a lawyer, all while encountering a variety of interesting people.

Like the She-Hulk from the comics, the MCU version frequently addresses the audience directly, offering her own take on current events and pop culture. She-Hulk was known for this playful habit of breaking the fourth wall even before Deadpool became famous for it, and actress Tatiana Maslany is committed to continuing this tradition in future appearances.

The future of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is currently up in the air. While Marvel hasn’t officially announced a second season, the show’s mixed reception after its first season might mean it won’t return. Although critics generally liked the show, it faced negative reactions online and some valid complaints, particularly about the visual effects used to create She-Hulk.

It’s been almost four years since Tatiana Maslany played She-Hulk, and earlier this year, rumors spread suggesting she’d been let go by Marvel Studios. However, she has since refuted those claims, describing them as deeply upsetting.

Even if She-Hulk doesn’t get a second season, Jennifer Walters could still appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films or shows, perhaps as part of a team or in a smaller role. This isn’t unusual – we’ve seen characters move between projects before. For example, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) went from Ms. Marvel to The Marvels, and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before becoming the Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World.

Because She-Hulk is an Avenger in the comic books, there’s a chance Tatiana Maslany’s version could join the team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as of now, She-Hulk isn’t confirmed to be in either Avengers: Doomsday later this year or Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
