Ted Lasso quickly became a major success for Apple TV, winning over viewers with its heartwarming story and focus on the lives of the AFC Richmond team. While the first two seasons were critically acclaimed and popular, the third season received mixed reactions, with some fans feeling the storylines were rushed and didn’t have enough time to develop. Despite the divisive ending, the show isn’t over! Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season. Originally planned for a summer release, we now have a clearer idea of when we can expect the new episodes.
Hannah Waddingham, the actress who plays Rebecca Welton, hinted that the next season of the show will likely return in August. She mentioned this while speaking with Deadline at the BAFTA red carpet, and quickly looked to her team to confirm if she was supposed to share that information, adding, “I think it’s August.” Waddingham also expressed excitement about the new direction the show is taking with a revamped athletic department and the ‘Lady Greyhounds,’ saying she believes viewers will love what the writers have created.
Can Ted Lasso Season 4 Be Successful With a New Main Cast?

Apple TV is taking a big creative gamble with the next season of Ted Lasso. The show will now focus on a women’s soccer team, which dramatically changes the core group of characters we’ve come to know. While Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt will be back as Ted and Coach Beard, the show needs to introduce a whole new team of players to drive the story. This likely means popular characters like Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt will have smaller roles, appearing as supporting characters or only in a few episodes.
The fourth season of Ted Lasso needs to recapture its magic and win over audiences again, but with a completely new team dynamic. This won’t be easy, especially since the show also needs to regain the trust of viewers after the third season felt rushed. Shifting focus from the men’s team is a risky move – similar attempts to create spin-offs within existing shows, like the later seasons of Scrubs, haven’t always worked out. If the new characters aren’t immediately as lovable as the original AFC Richmond players, viewers who are tuning in for familiar faces might lose interest.
Ted Lasso Season 4 is scheduled to be released in August 2026.
