Since Embark Studios launched the Shrouded Sky update for ARC Raiders, players have been finding hidden clues – called Easter eggs – that suggest what might be coming next in the game’s story. One Reddit user, Bewarden, noticed mysterious, unidentified flying objects appearing in the sky above the new Hurricane map.
Players are already meticulously examining a mysterious flying object frame by frame, trying to understand what it is. One player noticed that it first appeared to be two separate objects, but closer inspection suggests it’s actually a single, large entity. Reddit user Payule explained, “If the object’s outline wasn’t consistently maintained across all the frames, I wouldn’t be so sure about it being one thing.”
Many people have noticed the flying object’s shape looks a lot like Batman’s Batwing jet. Some have also pointed out similarities to the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.
This hidden feature seems to only appear when playing on the Hurricane map. So far, no one has reported seeing it on any other maps.
Last week’s Hurricane update has significantly changed how the map plays. Strong winds will make it harder to move – running into the wind drains stamina faster and slows you down. Wind also affects jumps and throws off your aim. Plus, flying debris damages shields, making them less effective and increasing your visibility to enemies. All of this combines to create reduced visibility across the map.
Okay, so the Hurricane isn’t perfect, but it does have some cool stuff going for it! I’ve heard you can find these awesome Raider Caches – apparently, they’re like lost treasures from the very beginning of the game. And if you’re into player-versus-player combat, the low visibility and broken shields actually create some really intense and unpredictable fights. It’s a risky ship, but it can be a lot of fun if you like a challenge!
Although we still don’t know what the huge, flying objects in ARC Raiders are for, the game’s creators have shared their plans for the future. Last month, design lead Virgil Watkins explained that they want to make the game’s cooperative challenges more difficult, but they’re looking for something different than another giant boss with six legs.
We’re currently satisfied with the current content, but it won’t keep players engaged indefinitely. Adding another large, spider-like robot might be a bit much, and we’d risk losing the novelty. We’re starting to think about how to evolve these experiences and find new ways to challenge players in the player-versus-environment (PvE) game mode.
ARC Raiders is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
