The story DLC for 11 bit studios’ sci-fi survival game, The Alters – where you play as Jan and control versions of himself – has been announced! It’s called Last Variable and will be available on July 13th. You can watch the reveal trailer below.
The game puts you in the role of Scientist Alter of Jan, who sets out to explore the Oasis – a mysterious new discovery on the planet from the first game. Instead of playing as an Engineer, Refiner, or Botanist like before, you’ll control a Geologist, Biologist, Physicist, and other experts. And while you can put your original Scientist into Cryosleep, the others will keep working, evolving their perspectives and behaviors as time passes.
Calling it ‘DLC’ doesn’t quite capture what’s been added – ‘expansion’ feels more accurate, as there are 20 hours of fresh experiences. You’ll continue researching technology and exploring the planet, working to reshape environments and discover valuable resources. Just be cautious – your actions could even cause events like earthquakes! Expect to find new buildings and terrain as you work to uncover the mystery of the Oasis.
