The Best Free JRPG Gets Even Better This April With New Persona Update

One of the top free-to-play Japanese role-playing games just got a major upgrade! Version 3.6 is now available, making the experience even better.

Sega, the company behind popular video games, has announced everything included in the April 2026 update for Persona 5: The Phantom X. The update adds Goro Akechi, a well-known detective character, to the game’s ‘Most Wanted Phantom Idol Contract’ feature, expanding the roster of available characters.

The addition of Goro Akechi to The Phantom X isn’t just a treat for fans – it’s a key part of the game’s continuing story. This crossover event, featuring the Phantom Thieves from P5X, will offer players exciting rewards and finally reveal the thoughts of Joker, Kasumi, and Akechi during that unforgettable scene in P5R.

Goro Akechi Joins Persona 5: The Phantom X in New April 2026 Update

I noticed something new in the game recently – Goro Akechi, the 5-Star Phantom Thief from Persona 5 Royal, has been added with the ‘Most Wanted Phantom Idol Contract.’ Sega announced that this contract seems to have a better chance of giving you specific Phantom Thieves. Plus, you can now get Akechi’s special 5-Star weapon, the Silent Pistol, through the Arms Deals.

Goro Akechi is a top-tier character who specializes in dealing huge Almighty-type damage. He’s most effective when teamed up with strong attackers. He can also support his allies by increasing their damage with Bless attacks and weakening enemies by lowering their defense with Curse attacks.

Akechi’s Flames of Desire ability is versatile, working with any character build. It can trigger up to three different effects based on his team, which directly increases his damage. He’s a strong attacker who works especially well with Sweepers, helping the whole team deal more damage while also using powerful Almighty attacks.

I noticed a special event started on April 16, 2026, to celebrate the new P5X update! If you log in each day for seven days, you’ll get a total of 7 Platinum Milicoins, which are useful for Arms Deals. They’re also giving out a total of 900 Meta Jewels – 600 initially, and another 300 on top of that.

Additional features in the P5X Version 3.6 update include:

  • Jose’s Dicey Adventure
    • Players can use the 8-Sided Dice and Loaded Dice collected by playing Crossroads of Fate: Laboratory Arc Part 2 to explore Mementos and gain rewards as they progress.
    • After progressing to a certain point in your exploration, players will run into the boss of that route and must defeat them to progress further. Players can also collect Flowers during their exploration to exchange for Gold Tickets, Kagura Bells and other rewards.
  • Boss Battle: Recollections of Fate
    • Defeat powerful bosses based on the Distortion Level to collect Loaded Dice and Joy Medals, which can be exchanged for Wonder’s exclusive weapon and other rewards.
    • Once a level has been cleared, Stamina Mode will be unlocked. In Stamina Mode, players can challenge the stage by consuming stamina and obtain Unusual Rebel Coins and other rewards by defeating the boss.
  • Goro Akechi makes an appearance at Leblanc
    • Goro Akechi will appear at Café Leblanc in Yongen-Jaya. You can earn various rewards by completing related City Life activities.
  • New Synergy: Manaka Nagao
    • The Synergy Story for Manaka Nagao, who appeared at the beginning of the main story, has been added.
    • The story explores what happens to her after her shocking encounter with Wonder, offering deeper insight into her life.
    • Additionally, playing the side mission of her grandmother, Chizuko Nagao, will enhance players’ experience of this story!
