Now that you can preorder The Blood of Dawnwalker before its September 2026 launch, you might be asking yourself if it’s a game worth checking out. We’ve been following it closely since the announcement and have compiled all the information we have in one easy-to-read guide.
Here’s a look at what makes this vampire story stand out, so you can decide if it’s something you’ll enjoy.
1. Tailor Your Approach

Vale Sangora provides the ideal setting for Coen’s quest to rescue his family from Brencis, a powerful vampire who controls the region through fear and a deadly plague. As you play, you can experience the game as a skilled human warrior during the day, or as a powerful vampire hybrid with unique abilities at night.
The Vale is an open-world game where how you complete objectives matters more than just getting to a location. You’ll often have multiple ways to achieve your goals, and the best approach can change depending on the time of day or the skills you’ve unlocked. This focus on flexible problem-solving is central to the gameplay and, we think, one of the game’s most appealing features.
2. A World Full of Possibilities
As Coen travels through Vale Sangora, players will have plenty of chances to use the game’s features. You can discover lost ruins containing instructions for unlocking new skills, find powerful weapons, or disrupt Brencis’s supply convoys whenever you encounter them.
As you explore, you’ll find places that reveal more about Vale Sangora and the specific area you’re in, giving you a deeper understanding of Coen’s journey and the world around him. Discovering these details might even lead you to new goals, and we’ll be thorough in our search as we explore.
3. An Interesting Approach To Combat

Combat in Dawnwalker, whether you’re playing as a human with Coen’s sword or a vampire using his claws, has a unique flow. You’ll need to watch your enemy’s attacks and use the correct movements to block or deflect them. Successfully doing so builds up energy that you can then spend on powerful special attacks to gain an advantage.
Before we discuss your new powers, remember that you can wield your sword even as a vampire. Transforming will also make your movements quicker and smoother.
4. Active Abilities

Coen has a wide range of powerful abilities to use against opponents who challenge him, especially when protecting Brencis. One example is Voracious Bite, which lets him attack and potentially stun an enemy while also draining their health. He also has Boiling Blood, a spell that deals damage over time during combat. However, Boiling Blood has a risk – it causes Coen to explode after a short delay, so players need to use it strategically.
Most of the spells in the game damage your health, but the Frugal Witchcraft ability lowers the amount of health lost each time you cast one. If you plan on spending time in Vale Sangora, getting Frugal Witchcraft is a good idea, as your health doesn’t recover during the day. We’re also excited to test out the Artery Attack ability, which can be a powerful finishing move if used strategically in battle.
5. Multiple Skill Trees
Okay, so this game really lets you lean into being both human and vampire, which is awesome. They’ve got separate skill trees for each side of you – so you can focus on being a powerful vampire, a skilled hunter as a human, or mix it up! Plus, there’s a shared tree for even more options. They’ve also put all your active abilities in their own menu, which makes things way easier to customize. Honestly, I think you can build a character that really fits how you like to play.
You can choose to focus on swordplay and suppress your vampire instincts, or find a way to balance both sides of your nature – the game lets you play it however you like!
6. Your Vampiric Abilities Come With A Cost

Each night as a vampire, you’ll feel hungry for blood – this is shown by your health bar. You can satisfy that hunger by feeding on humans or animals. It’s important to manage this, because if you let your vampire, Coen, get too hungry, he’ll lose control and might attack important characters, giving in to his instincts.
As a huge fan, I’m really excited about how they’re handling the whole feeding thing! You need blood to keep your vampire powers going, obviously, and this ‘Voracious Bite’ ability sounds awesome. It lets you decide how much blood you take, which is great – maybe you can avoid killing everyone! I can see myself using it to take down enemies without permanently getting rid of them, just draining enough to knock them out. It’s a really cool way to manage your hunger and still have options in combat.
7. Embodying A Vampire Hybrid

Details about the story are still limited, but we know Brencis has transformed Coes into a creature that’s a mix between a vampire and a human. This explains how he can move around in sunlight while still having powers at night. However, once it gets dark, he becomes much faster and gains abilities like Planeshift, allowing him to quickly climb walls and ceilings, and Shadowstep, which lets him teleport to places he couldn’t reach during the day.
You can also use your claws to quickly slide down from high spots if you see something below that catches your eye. Plus, all the abilities we’ve discussed work together, creating a unique combination you’ll need to master to succeed.
8. The Blood Guards

Initial gameplay revealed the Blood Guards – people granted enhanced powers by an ally of Brencis, but at the cost of their own free will. This ritual makes them fiercely loyal to Brencis, and they aggressively attack anyone who challenges him with their paired weapons.
Spending time in Vale Sangora will inevitably lead to conflicts with dangerous enemies, and you’ll need to use all your skills to win. We believe Coen is capable of overcoming these challenges, though.
9. Brencis Takes An Active Role In The Game

Brencis is a truly unusual villain. He doesn’t just allow Coen to disrupt his plans – he actively makes things more difficult the more you oppose him. He spreads the word about Coen, causing guards to become increasingly wary and hostile. You can choose to fight the vampires directly, or remain hidden and strategize for a better opportunity to win.
The game creates a fascinating back-and-forth struggle for dominance over the areas you discover, and we’re excited to see how this unfolds when the game is released.
10. Finish The Game Early If You Can
This situation is quite intriguing. We know Brencis is currently at his primary castle in Greifberg. You could, if you choose, directly attack the castle and attempt to defeat him. While this might be a quick way to finish Coen’s quest within the time limit, it won’t be a simple battle.
Dawnwalker doesn’t favor those who rush into battle without preparation. However, we expect some of you will bravely try a direct attack, and a few might even succeed.
11. Coen Isn’t The Only One Who’s Against Brencis

Although it’s tempting to bring Brencis into the fold quickly, we’re likely going to take a slower, more careful approach. Coen has potential allies in Vale Sangora, and recruiting them will probably require some effort, giving us a chance to explore that region more thoroughly.
Looking at everything else on this list, I think it’s actually smarter to explore a bit before rushing into the vampire battles. Seriously, you get to enjoy so much more of the game that way, and honestly, who wants to skip content?
12. The Capital Of Vale Sangora

Svartrau is a major city with distinct districts. You’ll likely encounter a social structure there, and your actions could allow you to interact with it during your journey.
The city’s got everything I need as a player – a medic to heal up, merchants to buy stuff from, and both a blacksmith and an armorer. That tells me there’s a crafting system, which is awesome! I can probably make my own better gear if my character’s natural attacks aren’t enough to take down enemies, giving me a real advantage in combat.
13. A New Approach To Quest Designs

What makes Dawnwalker stand out isn’t just its cool take on vampires. The game blends all its quests together – there’s no clear line between main and side stories. Your decisions actually change the game world in noticeable ways. Plus, how you approach missions depends on the time of day, and completing them takes time within the game, so you’ll need to carefully plan your actions.
Plus, getting involved in local events can lead to discovering helpful information or fresh approaches to your goals. You might even find completely new things to work on!
14. Explore The World To Learn More About Your Adversaries
Completing new quests could reveal secrets about Brencis and his followers, as well as the vampires’ overall plans. Hidden clues and discoveries, like ancient frescoes, are scattered throughout Vale Sangora, waiting to be found.
Okay, so this isn’t just about brute force – it’s a real info-gathering mission. If I want to take down everything Brencis has created since he moved in, I need to find out as much as possible about it. Basically, knowledge is power here, and I’m going to be doing a lot of digging.
15. Focus Mode

Coen is a powerful fighter – he’s part vampire and part human, making him incredibly strong in battle. But he’s also a surprisingly skilled detective, which means he doesn’t give up easily. The game’s Focus Mode is a helpful tool that can point out important items, treasure, and secret areas if you use it consistently.
As a fan, I’ve found this feature amazing for revisiting past scenes! It’s like being able to really focus on those important details and save a ton of time when the story is moving quickly. It’s perfect for piecing things together and remembering what happened where.
That’s all for now! We’re really excited to finally reach Vale Sangora and challenge Brencis, and we know you are too! Until then, we’ll be counting down the days until we have more news to share – and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we do!
