Now that Season 5 of The Boys has finished, we know what happens to all the major characters in the Prime Video series. While the finale does feature several deaths, a lot of characters actually make it through the last episode. It wasn’t the massive, destructive ending some viewers anticipated, but most of the characters get a fitting conclusion to their stories.
Okay, so a couple of characters didn’t get endings that totally blew me away, but honestly, it didn’t ruin the whole experience of The Boys finale for me. Most of the characters did get the conclusions they deserved, even if a few things felt a little rushed or weren’t wrapped up perfectly. But Season 5 really delivered some amazing, satisfying endings for a lot of the heroes and villains, and it felt like a really great way to bring everything together after all these years of storytelling. It was genuinely rewarding to watch!
13) Sister Sage

Sister Sage’s storyline in Season 5 of The Boys feels disjointed, which ultimately weakens her conclusion. Initially presented as a cunning manipulator in Season 4 and briefly in Season 5, her ultimate plan—to let chaos unfold while she shelters underground—feels anticlimactic. A key mistake then allows Homelander to obtain V1. In the series finale, she sacrifices her powers to test Kimiko, and then happily walks away from the fight. This could have been a fitting end, but only if her desire to escape had been consistently shown. Because her motivations are unclear, and because the show portrays her as surprisingly naive after losing her powers, her ending feels unsatisfying. Losing her intelligence shouldn’t have meant making her completely clueless!
12) Soldier Boy

In the next-to-last episode of The Boys, Homelander seemingly defeats Soldier Boy by choking him and returning him to the cryo chamber. The show doesn’t revisit Soldier Boy, leaving his ultimate fate uncertain. While it makes sense he wasn’t involved in the final battle—it would have taken focus away from the conflict between Butcher and Homelander—simply putting him back on ice feels a bit disappointing. This likely sets the stage for a storyline in Vought Rising that takes place in the present day, but it’s a risky move. If the show continues with that idea, it needs to be handled carefully.
11) Oh-Father

While Sister Sage and Soldier Boy didn’t get the endings they deserved, Oh-Father’s fate was just…okay. It wasn’t particularly upsetting, but it felt rushed and didn’t really leave a lasting impression. Since Oh-Father was a newer character in Season 5 of The Boys, we hadn’t had much time to connect with him, so his death didn’t hit as hard. He’s quickly taken care of by Hughie and M.M. with little ceremony, making it one of the least talked-about moments of the finale. Still, it delivered one last over-the-top death – complete with a ball gag and plenty of blood for Hughie – which fits the show’s style perfectly. It wasn’t a bad ending, but it didn’t feel as emotionally significant as the fates of other characters.
10) Ashley Barrett

Ashley Barrett’s story in the fifth season finale of The Boys plays out exactly as you’d anticipate. After briefly becoming the first female U.S. president – a position she quickly loses – she’s forced to publicly respond to Homelander’s erratic behavior, leading to her impeachment and removal from office. Considering how much she’s helped Homelander maintain power, it feels like a just outcome. Even after a small moment of trying to do the right thing, she avoids taking accountability when questioned and doesn’t offer much help to The Boys beyond getting them out of one specific jam. It’s a little sad she doesn’t develop further as a character, but her final arc feels appropriate and realistic.
9) Frenchie

Though Frenchie doesn’t survive to the end of The Boys Season 5, he does appear in the final episode. After his death in Episode 7, he appears to Kimiko as a source of encouragement when she needs it most. Whether it’s a real appearance or not is left ambiguous, but she believes it, and that’s what’s important. Frenchie’s final scenes, both when he was alive and his ghostly appearance, are moving and well-written. However, his death feels somewhat unnecessary and predictable, as the show hinted at it repeatedly. While there might have been other ways he could have evaded or distracted Homelander, his last line – “I bet you never danced a day in your life” – is a standout moment. Ultimately, Frenchie’s death fits the overall narrative, but the way it unfolded could have been more impactful.
8) Billy Butcher

Billy Butcher’s story in The Boys Season 5 had one inevitable ending, and the finale delivers – although the path to get there feels a bit rushed. Similar to the comics, Butcher is killed by Hughie after trying to release the supe virus. The impact of his death is particularly strong because he appears to recognize his mistake right before Hughie shoots him. While Butcher’s fate feels fitting for his character, the season presents a somewhat inconsistent view of his beliefs and his desire to eliminate supes. This makes his sudden shift after Terror’s death feel a little jarring. Like Frenchie’s death, it makes sense overall, but it would have been more powerful with more consistent character development.
7) Ryan

Even though Ryan doesn’t appear much in the first half of The Boys Season 5, he’s key to the battle against Homelander and finally confronts both his father and Butcher. After their deaths, Ryan loses his powers and ends up living with Mother’s Milk, which feels like a well-deserved happy ending. However, it’s unclear how Kimiko’s attack caused him to lose his abilities, considering he was born with powers. The show also could have explored his powers more fully; while his ending is satisfying, it’s a shame we didn’t see more of him using them beforehand.
6) Kimiko

While Butcher and Frenchie don’t make it, the rest of The Boys team survives the showdown with Homelander, though their futures vary in happiness. Kimiko has the most difficult ending after Frenchie’s death. She does find some comfort by adopting Simone the Bernedoodle and even travels to France in his memory, but she’s clearly still mourning. It’s a touching but sad ending for a character who deserved more. Though realistic for the show’s gritty tone, Kimiko’s fate feels lower than that of the other heroes. Ultimately, it’s a powerful ending – the sacrifices made by characters are what make The Boys so impactful – but it’s also heartbreaking.
5) Annie January/Starlight

While Annie has a happy ending in Season 5 of The Boys – unlike Kimiko – it doesn’t feel quite as satisfying as the conclusions for M.M. or Hughie. After defeating Homelander, Annie and Hughie start a life together, expecting a child and running an electronics store. Annie also appears to still be fighting crime, though the details of how she’s doing so are unclear – it’s unknown if she’s working with the government, on her own, or only occasionally. Furthermore, Annie doesn’t receive the public recognition she deserves after being unfairly criticized throughout the series. Though we’re glad she finds a happier life after the fight with Homelander, her ending leaves too many unanswered questions to be considered one of the most fulfilling storylines.
4) Mother’s Milk

Throughout Season 5 of The Boys, Mother’s Milk believes he’s going to die, so it’s a welcome shock when he survives the battle with Homelander. Even though he tries to adopt Butcher’s pessimistic attitude, Mother’s Milk consistently shows he’s a caring person at heart. Seeing him reconnect with his wife and daughter is genuinely heartwarming – they all deserve a happy ending. Furthermore, the show made a smart decision having Mother’s Milk become a father figure to Ryan. After everything Ryan has been through with Butcher and Homelander, Mother’s Milk is exactly who he needs. It’s only a bit disappointing that they didn’t have more scenes together earlier in the season.
3) The Deep

The ending for The Deep in the Season 5 finale of The Boys is particularly satisfying, as it’s a fitting consequence for his consistently awful behavior over the past five seasons. From the very beginning, The Deep has been a truly unlikeable character, and viewers have been anticipating his comeuppance. His death feels earned, and the wait actually makes it even more impactful. It’s perfect that he’s first dismissed by Homelander, then beaten by Annie, and ultimately killed by the sea creatures he himself betrayed. The Deep’s arc comes to a well-deserved and cleverly crafted conclusion. And it’s classic The Boys to have him childishly deny responsibility, even yelling “no” like a toddler, right until the end.
2) Hughie Campbell

While the defeat of The Deep feels good, two character endings are even better. Hughie Campbell’s is the second best – it’s perfectly done and genuinely uplifting. Unlike most endings in The Boys, Hughie’s doesn’t feel incomplete or need further explanation. After fighting for justice for so long, he finally gets to live a normal life. He chooses to step away from the Bureau of Superhuman Affairs, something Butcher couldn’t do, and finds happiness settling down with Annie to start a family. The final scene of him looking at her with a smile is a powerful contrast to where his story began, and it proves that holding onto hope was the right choice.
1) Homelander

While Hughie’s journey in Season 5 of The Boys offers a hopeful conclusion, the most satisfying ending belongs to Homelander. After seasons of causing suffering, the finale finally strips him of his power, revealing his true cowardice through some surprisingly funny attempts to regain control. Butcher ultimately defeats him, bringing their rivalry to a definitive close and echoing a key moment from the original comic books. The fact that Homelander’s fall happens live on television ensures he’ll have no lasting positive image. It’s a well-earned, expertly crafted, and brilliantly acted conclusion, and Homelander’s downfall will undoubtedly be one of the show’s most iconic scenes – even surpassing what fans expected.
