Elder Scrolls Online players have long requested more difficult areas like Craglorn, as well as options to increase the challenge of general exploration and story missions. I’ve mentioned this feedback to the developers many times, and they always agreed it was something they were aware of. Now, with the game’s new seasonal format giving them more flexibility, they’ve started to increase the difficulty, but the response has shifted – now players are saying it’s too hard.
The Night Market event is now live for a limited time! Players can choose one of three factions and team up to tackle tough challenges in Fargrave. The area essentially functions as one long, difficult encounter, requiring strong teamwork to overcome even basic enemies. A new activity finder helps you connect with other players, similar to how you find groups for dungeons. Many long-time players have been asking for this kind of high-level, demanding content to really test their character builds.
A quick look at the game’s online community reveals a common theme: many players are unhappy. You’ll see comments like, “The developers don’t seem to understand the game,” “Is anyone enjoying this?”, and “This is a terrible experience.” While there are legitimate issues – such as underwhelming rewards, enemies that feel weak, and the inability to share quests – the biggest problem seems to be that the game is too difficult to play solo; grouping with others feels essential to succeed. Hopefully, the developers will address these concerns in future updates.
Too Difficult, Or Too Stubborn?
This game is an MMO, so succeeding in group activities requires teamwork. You need to support both healers and tanks, not just focus on damage. While it can be hard to coordinate with random players, guilds are a great solution, similar to how trials work. There are even guilds designed for players with busy schedules who can’t commit to long play sessions – they’re a good option if you want to tackle harder content without needing hours of free time. As one player, u/Naive_Freedom_5145, pointed out, the recent content is a chance for experienced players to help newer players improve.
The Night Market offers a unique experience not seen in The Elder Scrolls Online since the original Craglorn, and because it’s a limited-time event, players are especially encouraged to participate. However, it’s also clear that it’s not for everyone – some players have even expressed that challenging content like the Night Market discourages them from playing. Veteran players can help by encouraging newer players to give it a try, actively communicating in chat, suggesting groups and guilds, and offering helpful tips and plans.
Ultimately, ESO is a game about playing with others. That means asking for help, teaming up, and coordinating with other players, whether you need it or want to help them. The Night Market really emphasizes this social aspect, and many long-time players have been requesting more challenging PvE content for years. ESO already offers a lot of different ways to play – from large-scale battles and small skirmishes to card games, treasure hunting, and traditional quests. The Night Market just adds another option, giving experienced players something new to do once they’ve completed everything else. Players who prefer to go it alone can easily skip it, just like PvP players might skip a dungeon, or story-focused players might avoid battlegrounds. The wide range of activities is a big reason why ESO remains so popular.

Adding different difficulty levels could help players stay engaged with the event, much like how normal and veteran dungeons work. However, as user u/jay_baah pointed out in a recent post about the Night Market, it’s disappointing that so many players seem unwilling to connect with each other in a game designed for collaboration.
