A new report reveals the future of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video.
In February 2025, it was confirmed that a third season of The Lord of the Rings spin-off is in production. This season will tell the story of Sauron’s journey to create the One Ring. Filming started in May, but there’s no news yet on when The Rings of Power season 3 will be released.
Ever since it premiered in September 2022, the fantasy series has been under a lot of discussion. Because the show was expensive to make and promote, and early reports suggested it didn’t attract as many viewers as hoped, many fans and industry experts have wondered if Amazon’s Prime Video might decide to cancel The Rings of Power.
According to a new report by Lesley Goldberg of The Ankler, The Rings of Power will finish its planned five seasons on Prime Video. However, due to the show’s expensive production, spin-offs are not expected. This news comes as part of a larger look at the direction of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios under their new leader, Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television.
