The Mandalorian and Grogu releases special short film to accompany screenings for a very important cause

Disney has released a Mandalorian-themed short film in support of a special charity.

The clip, which is being released in line with new Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, forms part of Disney’s The Magic of Movies campaign, which supports UK charity MediCinema.

MediCinema builds and runs cinemas inside hospitals equipped with space for beds, wheelchairs and medical equipment, bringing the magic of movies directly to patients and their loved ones.

Titled Escape to Another World, the 70-second film follows a young Star Wars fan in hospital, who escapes into the galaxy far, far away while watching the latest release through MediCinema.

On a journey through his imagination, we’re transported back to his hospital bed, where an invitation to MediCinema’s special screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu helps to ease his anxiety.

The film is “a powerful reminder of the comfort, connection and escapism cinema can bring to those who need it most”, notes Disney.

The Mandalorian and Grogu, which marks the first big-screen Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, is set after the events of the Disney+ series.

The film follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), aka Mando, and Grogu as they work with the New Republic to track down and find Imperial warlords causing chaos across the galaxy.

Along the way, the pair meet a new ally in Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver), as well as a new nemesis in Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White).

Other cast members include Jonny Coyne as Janu, Steve Blum as Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and Martin Scorsese as an Ardennian fry cook. Yes, that Martin Scorsese.

The short film, available above, will be shown in Vue cinemas nationwide ahead of select screenings of The Mandalorian and Grogu from today, 22 May 2026.
