The Mandalorian and Grogu are returning, and their adventures are heading to the movie theater! They’ll be joined by both allies and rivals for this new story.
After appearing for three seasons on Disney+, the characters of The Mandalorian and his adopted son are heading to the big screen in a movie designed for both longtime fans and newcomers.
Details about the story have been mostly secret, but we know Din Djarin (Mando) and Grogu are teaming up with the New Republic to track down Imperial warlords who are creating trouble throughout the galaxy. Their mission puts them at odds with the Hutts – the infamous crime syndicate – who are trying to grab more power as the galaxy adjusts after the fall of the Empire.
Jon Favreau, the creator of the show and director of films like Iron Man, The Lion King, and Chef, directed the film. He co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni, who is now a co-president at Lucasfilm.

Following the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian & Grogu takes place in a galaxy where the new Republic is working to eliminate the remaining forces of the defeated Empire and prevent its resurgence.
I’m so excited for the new season! It’s going to be longer, and they’re really going all out with the IMAX version. Din and Grogu are going to meet a ton of new faces, but even better, some of our favorite characters from the animated shows are coming back too! It’s going to be epic.
Read on for a full guide to the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to release on 22 May.

Pedro Pascal plays Din Djarin/The Mandalorian

Din Djarin, known as The Mandalorian, had a difficult childhood. He was orphaned during the Clone Wars and raised by the Mandalorian people as one of their own. This peaceful life was shattered when the Empire attacked his home world, wiping out much of his community.
Similar to the legendary Boba Fett, Din Djarin earned a living as a bounty hunter, completing jobs throughout the galaxy. His life changed when he became a father figure to Grogu, and together, they now assist the New Republic by taking down former Imperial officers causing trouble.
Besides his well-known role in Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has starred in popular shows like HBO’s The Last of Us and recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Grogu (and several puppeteers) plays himself

Okay, let me tell you about Grogu! He’s seriously the most adorable little creature in the Star Wars universe. Basically, he’s a youngling – a Jedi in training – and he’s the same species as Yoda. He was a baby when Order 66 happened, the terrible event that wiped out the Jedi, but luckily, another Jedi Master, Kelleran Beq, saved him. Then, Din Djarin – Mando, the Mandalorian – found him and basically adopted him as his own, raising him as a foundling within the Mandalorian culture.
Grogu first became famous in the show The Mandalorian. He’s a very popular character in the Star Wars universe, brought to life using a combination of puppets, animatronics, and computer-generated imagery.
Sigourney Weaver as Ward

Colonel Ward is a high-ranking officer in the New Republic, leading the Adelphi Rangers. She’s a veteran pilot who fought against the Empire and is determined to prevent another war at all costs. Not much else is publicly known about her background.
Sigourney Weaver is a highly accomplished actress with a long and impressive career. She’s known for iconic films like Alien and Ghostbusters, and more recently starred in the Avatar series and the movie Master Gardener.
Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt

Rotta the Hutt is the son of Jabba the Hutt, a notorious criminal. He was first seen as a baby in the Clone Wars movie, where Anakin and Ahsoka saved him. However, the upcoming film will show us a much older and different version of Rotta.
Unlike most Hutts, Rotta is a skilled and formidable fighter, experienced in gladiatorial combat. It’s currently unclear whether he will be an ally or enemy to Din Djarin.
Jeremy Allen White first became known for his role in the American version of Shameless. He gained further recognition and praise for playing the stressed-out chef Carmy in the series The Bear. More recently, he portrayed Bruce Springsteen in the movie Deliver Me From Nowhere, and he’s scheduled to appear in The Social Reckoning later this year.
Jonny Coyne as Janu

Janu is a mysterious but important figure within the remnants of the Empire, and may be a valuable ally to Grand Admiral Thrawn. It’s possible ‘Janu’ isn’t his true name, and that the actor playing him, Jon Favreau’s associate Coyne, is actually portraying a previously established character from the Star Wars universe.
Jonny Coyne is a busy character actor who’s appeared in several popular shows and projects, including season three of The Mandalorian, the Stephen King miniseries 11.22.63, and Once Upon A Time.
Steve Blum as Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios

Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios is a popular character from the Star Wars animated series, Rebels. He’s a key member of the crew aboard the ship, the Ghost, and played an important role in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire. Zeb is a skilled fighter, often providing the team’s strength, and carries a sad past – his people, the Lasat, were nearly destroyed by the Empire. Fans are thrilled to see him return, especially because of his compelling character development throughout Rebels.
Steve Blum is a well-known voice actor who has played many roles. He’s famous for voicing Zeb in Star Wars: Rebels, and has also lent his voice to popular shows like Cowboy Bebop and The Legend of Korra, as well as several Mortal Kombat video games.
Martin Scorsese as an Ardennian fry cook

Okay, so who is this Ardennian fry cook we keep seeing? Honestly, not much is known about them. But here’s the cool part: they’re the same species as Rio, that awesome character Jon Favreau voiced in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s a small detail, but as a movie buff, I always appreciate those little connections!
Beyond directing, Martin Scorsese recently appeared in a role in the Apple TV series, The Studio. However, he’s far more famous as the director of iconic films such as The Departed, Goodfellas, and Killers of the Flower Moon, among many others.
