The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Post-Credits Scene Choice Was the Right Call for Star Wars’ Future

As a huge Star Wars fan, it’s fantastic to finally see the franchise back in theaters with The Mandalorian and Grogu after such a long wait – it’s been seven years! Honestly, The Rise of Skywalker left a bad taste in my mouth, and the sequels were just…rough. Disney really jumped into streaming with both feet, and it felt like a lot of promising movie plans got scrapped along the way. It’s good to see them return to the big screen, and thankfully, they made a smart choice with that post-credits scene!

With the latest Star Wars film shifting the focus back to movies, you might be wondering if there’s a scene after the credits hinting at what’s coming next. While Star Wars films haven’t typically done this, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian has. The season two finale of The Mandalorian included a post-credits scene that introduced The Book of Boba Fett, and that show also used one to reveal a character’s survival. So, it was possible this new movie would follow suit. However, The Mandalorian and Grogu doesn’t have a scene after the credits, and that’s actually a good thing. It’s still worth staying to enjoy the music and acknowledge the hard work of everyone involved in making the film.

Star Wars Doesn’t Need Post-Credits Scenes

The movie easily could have included a scene featuring Din Djarin and Grogu. While a cute moment with Grogu would have been welcome – you can never have too much of the little guy – it wasn’t essential. We know they’ll continue their adventures, but their future on screen isn’t guaranteed. The movie’s success will determine what happens next – we might get a sequel, The Mandalorian & Grogu 2, or even a return to a TV series if it doesn’t do well. For now, there’s no need to hint at anything.

Post-credit scenes have become incredibly common in big franchise movies, especially since the Marvel Cinematic Universe became popular. However, Star Wars would be better served by not using them. This would help set it apart from Marvel, also owned by Disney. Considering Lucasfilm has cancelled or delayed so many projects, it’s hard for them to make any long-term promises. Any potential tie-ins to other projects would likely have to come from the already filmed second season of Ahsoka or Star Wars: Starfighter, both scheduled for release in 2027.

Introducing Zeb in a post-credits scene wouldn’t have worked for The Mandalorian & Grogu. While the movie shares some connections to the Imperial Remnant and Zeb will be in Season 2 of Ahsoka, that’s where the links end – as far as we know. A post-credits setup for a Disney+ show would have felt forced. Similarly, when Lucasfilm finally reveals Starfighter, they want it to be a major standalone event, and that’s easier to achieve without tying it to another film with a credits scene.

Let’s be honest, Star Wars has been searching for its footing again for a while now. While The Mandalorian & Grogu isn’t a groundbreaking return to the series’ best days, it is a really enjoyable, self-contained adventure. And Starfighter seems poised to be even more exciting! The best part? It doesn’t feel weighed down by all that decades-old backstory. It smartly avoids trying to set up some huge future storyline – no post-credits scene here, thankfully. Let Marvel handle that stuff. This new film wisely focuses on telling one good Star Wars story, and that’s exactly what it needed.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is now playing in theaters.
