The Outer Worlds Base Game to be Delisted, Owners Will be Upgraded to Spacer’s Choice Edition

Even though Obsidian Entertainment has stated they aren’t planning a third game in the sci-fi RPG series The Outer Worlds, they are revisiting the original. They’ve announced on Steam that everyone who already owns The Outer Worlds will receive a free upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition.

An update for The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition was recently released, both to improve how the studio develops games and to fix some bugs. Another, bigger update is coming soon with improvements to performance, gameplay, quests, and the game’s lighting. This update will also add grenades, which weren’t included in the original The Outer Worlds. You can find a complete list of changes in the patch notes below.

The original version of The Outer Worlds will no longer be available for purchase on Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch after May 27th. After that date, the only version you’ll be able to buy will be the Spacer’s Choice Edition, which is currently available on PC (through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

So, if you’re a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One player and want the full Outer Worlds experience – the Spacer’s Choice Edition – you’ll still need to download all the DLC separately. But good news! The developers are making it a little easier on our wallets by adjusting the prices. The base game will be $24.99 and each piece of DLC will be $14.99. That makes getting the full game a bit more affordable!

The Outer Worlds 2 came out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in October 2025. You can find a detailed review of the game on our site.
