The Rookie spin-off star teases new show’s pilot and potential crossover plans

Now that ‘The Rookie‘ has been renewed for a ninth season, attention is turning to its potential spin-off, ‘The Rookie: North’. A pilot episode has already been filmed, but the show hasn’t been officially confirmed for a full season yet.

Recently, Deadline reported that Jay Ellis, star of “The Rookie: North,” shared some news about his character, Alex Holland. If the show is picked up, Ellis will play Holland, the oldest rookie to join the Pierce County Police Department.

Ellis shared with several publications that he’s watched the pilot episode twice and believes it’s excellent. He also predicts viewers will quickly become invested in the characters.

He complimented his fellow actors in the pilot, saying Janet Montgomery, Chris Sullivan, Karen Fukuhara, Froy Gutierrez, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson all brought their characters to life in a way that made viewers either cheer them on, relate to them, or even get frustrated with them.

This group just feels incredibly relatable – like people you’d genuinely enjoy spending time with, whether it’s grabbing a drink, going to a concert, or just relaxing and listening to music together.

Ellis believes fans of The Rookie will also enjoy the new spin-off. He also hinted that characters from both shows might appear in each other’s stories, potentially leading to a meeting between his character and Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan.

He mentioned a possible crossover, saying it’s been discussed, but they need to work out the details. First, though, they need to get renewed for another season, and he expressed his enthusiasm for the idea if it happens.

He shared that he was immediately drawn to the pilot and his character’s arc. The character is multifaceted and experiences a lot throughout the first episode, showcasing the complexities of human nature in an engaging way. He found himself wanting the character to succeed and overcome his challenges, which is what ultimately captivated him.

Alexei Hawley, the creator of The Rookie and its new spin-off, recently shared that the network is very pleased with the pilot episode of The Rookie: North.

You can’t really predict how something will turn out until you see the final result, but we had a fantastic cast, especially Jay Ellis, who is a truly talented actor. It was a pleasure working with him and everyone involved.

I’m naturally a hopeful person, so I’m optimistic we’ll be discussing this soon.
