The season 1 finale of the Scrubs revival introduced a new love interest for J.D., which unfortunately put an end to my idea of where the show was headed with his character. Overall, the revival was popular with both longtime fans and critics, who generally agreed it successfully brought back the original show’s charm while also feeling fresh and modern.
Despite the return of familiar faces like Turk, Carla, and Dr. Cox, the new season of Scrubs still centers on J.D. Many dedicated fans were disappointed to learn right away that J.D. and Elliot didn’t end up together after the original series, and their relationship was clearly over. While some hoped that wouldn’t last, a major guest star in season two confirms that their breakup is permanent.
J.D and Elliot’s Romantic Reunion Looks Less Likely Than Ever In Scrubs Season 2

JD starting to date Charlie, a new character played by Rachel Bilson who he met at the hospital gift shop, adds a complication to the possibility of him and Elliot getting back together. This new relationship shows JD is now open to moving on, something he wasn’t at the beginning of the revival season. While it doesn’t completely rule out a future for JD and Elliot, this development makes a romantic reunion seem much less likely.
Jason Bilson and Zach Braff acted together in the 2006 romantic drama The Last Kiss, which wasn’t well-received by critics. They had much better on-screen chemistry as characters Charlie and JD in the finale of the Scrubs revival, suggesting this new storyline could be interesting for JD. Still, the plot twist feels somewhat underwhelming. Scrubs spent years building towards JD and Elliot resolving their problems and becoming a couple, and the revival quickly reversed that progress.
Scrubs Season 2’s Best Guest Star Poses A Problem For The Sitcom’s Revival

This isn’t the first time Scrubs has introduced a potential love interest for JD who seems like a perfect match. Back in season 5, actor Zach Braff’s then-girlfriend, Mandy Moore, played Julie Quinn, a character who shared many similarities with both JD and Elliot, including a tendency to daydream and common interests.
I always felt bad about JD and Julie. They bought land together, which seemed like a big step, but it quickly fell apart when Julie didn’t want to talk about the future. Honestly, JD’s love life on Scrubs is usually a disaster, but this felt especially rough – they introduced Julie as someone who could finally be Elliot’s replacement, and then just dropped her storyline after one episode! I’m really hoping the new season of Scrubs doesn’t do the same thing with Charlie and Rachel Bilson. It would be great if they gave that relationship a real chance.
