How recently did Microsoft cancel the PS5 version of Gears of War: E-Day? Apparently very recently.
Today, the game received a PEGI rating that includes PlayStation consoles. Plus, retail databases show a physical copy of the game is planned for the PS5.
Journalist Jeff Grubb, who first reported this, says a nearly completed version of the third-person shooter already exists on a hard drive.
He said:
“So yeah, there’s a basically finished version of Gears for PlayStation sitting on a drive.”
It seems likely this game was cancelled recently, probably within the last few weeks. Given its planned release date of October 6th, it’s reasonable to assume the PlayStation 5 version was nearly finished.
Xbox has clarified that this game won’t be a temporary exclusive, meaning it’s unlikely to ever be released on PlayStation.
It’s unclear if the company will actually follow through with this plan. They’ve changed direction so many times recently that it’s hard to know what to expect.
This isn’t the first time a Gears of War game was planned for PlayStation. Years ago, a version of Gears of War 3 being developed for the PS3 was discovered, and now another project has been cancelled.
