There’s A Major Problem With Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast & Marvel Need to Fix it Immediately

It’s surprising that Marvel Studios hasn’t addressed a noticeable problem with the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced criticism regarding representation and diversity, particularly the lack of female heroes in its earlier films. While recent projects like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, Echo, Agatha All Along, and Captain Marvel have shown improvement, a significant gender imbalance still exists within the MCU.

It’s clear there’s an issue with representation when looking at the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. While Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Doctor Doom, and the sequel will feature many returning Marvel actors, only five out of the 26 confirmed supporting actors are women, compared to 21 men. This significant imbalance is concerning and highlights a larger, ongoing problem with the Marvel Cinematic Universe that seems to have persisted for too long.

Which Other Female Heroes Do We Want to See in Avengers: Doomsday?

So far, the confirmed female heroes appearing in Avengers: Doomsday are Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), the new Black Panther Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) from the X-Men films. It’s great to see these powerful and popular characters return, but it’s disappointing that only five women are currently confirmed for the movie.

The MCU and broader Marvel universe are full of amazing female heroes who deserve to be in Avengers: Doomsday. While the complete cast list hasn’t been announced yet, it’s disappointing that Marvel seems to be suggesting only five major female heroes will participate. Many strong characters, like Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), were left out of the initial announcement, and hopefully more will be included.

Following comments made by Tatiana Maslany criticizing Disney, it’s looking doubtful that She-Hulk will appear in future Marvel projects. Similarly, Evangeline Lilly’s decision to retire from acting puts the future of her character, the Wasp, in question. What’s even more concerning is that a large number of talented actresses – including Tessa Thompson, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, and many others – haven’t been included in the cast of the upcoming Doomsday film. Fans are now urging Marvel Studios to address this significant lack of female representation as soon as possible.
