A highly anticipated dark fantasy anime, originally planned for release this year, will now premiere on Crunchyroll in January. A new trailer and poster have been released to build excitement, and it’s shaping up to be a major anime event for Winter 2026. Next year promises a strong start for anime fans with both returning favorites and exciting new series.
Fans were excited about the upcoming anime Sentenced to Be a Hero when it was originally scheduled to release this fall. However, the release was unexpectedly pushed back several months to January. Now that the anime is almost here after the delay, a new poster and trailer have been released to preview the series, which is expected to premiere in 2026.
Sentenced to Be a Hero Comes to Crunchyroll January 2026
I’m so excited to share that Sentenced to Be Hero is officially premiering on January 3rd as part of the Winter 2026 anime season! And the best part? It’ll be streaming exclusively on Crunchyroll when it drops. We’re getting a full hour-long premiere episode to kick things off, which is amazing! Hiroyuki Takashima is directing at Studio KAI, with Yoshitake Nakakoji as assistant director and handling the creature designs. Kenta Ihara is in charge of the scripts, Takeshi Noda is designing the characters, and Shunsuke Takizawa is composing the music – the whole team is incredible, and I can’t wait to see it all come together!
The latest trailer for the anime features the opening theme song, “Kill the Noise,” performed by the band SPYAIR. The voice actors include Yohei Azakami as Xylo Forbartz, Mayu Iizuka as Teoritta, Shizuka Ishigami as Patausche Kivia, Shun Horie as Dotta Luzulas, Shunichi Toki as Venetim Leopool, Shoya Chiba as Jayce Partiract, and Yoko Hikasa as Neely. The trailer also revealed new cast members Yuichi Nakamura, who will voice Rhyno, and Saori Onishi, who will voice Frenci Mastibolt.
Why You Should Watch Sentenced to Be a Hero

In 2026, several highly anticipated fantasy anime series will be released, with many premiering in Winter alone, including the popular Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Despite strong competition for viewers, one show is already generating significant buzz. Unlike many recent anime, it’s a classic fantasy story, not a reincarnation or other common genre.
The story has an interesting catch: becoming the hero means constantly dying and being reborn. However, the main character eventually finds a way to escape this endless cycle. It’s a promising new series that could be very popular, so be sure to check it out on Crunchyroll this January.
