When I initially came across Shujinkou Manga Reader on the PS Store, I thought it might be a game with a visual style similar to Japanese manga.
Interestingly, this story is actually a complete manga that you can read in one sitting, and it’s available to view directly on your TV.
This app is a free download and is based on the popular JRPG it’s named after. The creators describe it as a way to share the world, characters, and story of the game in an easier-to-enjoy format, focusing on the narrative.
Based on the PlayStation Store reviews (2.96), it seems many players weren’t quite prepared for what this game offered.
The app is expected to grow, with plans to add more manga stories and chapters throughout the year. It’s unclear whether these additions will be free or require payment.
Okay, so this isn’t the most annoying way to get the word out about a game, especially since it’s a free app. I’ve seen way worse, honestly.
I don’t think visual novels and comics really shine on consoles. They feel more comfortable to read on portable devices like handhelds or tablets, where they’re easy to hold and enjoy.
