Three Game Boy Color Games Not Seen Since 2000 Are Getting Special Release in 2027

Three classic Game Boy Color games, unavailable for over 27 years, are being re-released in 2027. To play them, you’ll need a functioning Game Boy Color or a device that supports Game Boy Color games. This is a limited release with a short pre-order period, and after that, copies will only be available from resellers at potentially higher prices.

From May 1st to May 31st, Limited Run Games is accepting pre-orders for the Rugrats Portable Collection. This collection includes three games: The Rugrats Movie, Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, and Rugrats Time Travelers. The bundle for the Game Boy Color will cost $50. While a specific release date isn’t available yet, it’s expected to ship sometime in the first three months of 2027.

Very Nostalgic Games From 1998 to 2000

If you’re not familiar with these games, the first one is The Rugrats Movie, originally released in 1998 for Game Boy and then in 1999 for Game Boy Color by Software Creations and THQ Nordic. This collection includes both versions of the game, which is based on the 1990s movie of the same name. When it first came out, it received a score of 62 on GameRankings.

In 1999, Rugrats: Time Travelers was released as a game exclusively for the Game Boy Color. Unlike the first Rugrats game, which was based on the movie, this one featured an original story. When it launched, the game—also created by the same team—received a score of 56 on GameRankings.

Okay, so there was also Rugrats in Paris: The Movie game, which came out in 2000, the same year as the movie itself. Unlike the first two games that were only on Game Boy, this one was a bigger deal – it was released on the N64, PlayStation, and PC too! It’s kinda weird because different companies actually made the game depending on which system you were playing on. Software Creations, Avalanche Software, and KnowWonder all had a hand in it. When it first came out, it got a score of 69 on GameRankings.

This physical copy only includes a special guide, and there’s no limit to how many you can buy. You don’t need to pre-order right away – you have the entire purchase window to decide.
