A recent fan theory suggests Mira could be a key character in the upcoming sequel to the 2025 hit movie, KPop Demon Hunters. While a sequel seemed likely given the first film’s success, Netflix and Sony have a tough task ahead of them. The original set a new standard for animation, and its incredible soundtrack was seamlessly integrated into the story, making it comparable to a classic Disney film.
The story of KPop Demon Hunters primarily followed Rumi, and her journey was the main focus. While Mira and Zoey were also well-developed characters with hinted-at backstories revealed through the music, they naturally received less attention than Rumi. Many fans are hoping KPop Demon Hunters 2 will shift the focus to either Mira or Zoey, and a new fan theory suggests Mira might be the one to take center stage.
KPop Demon Hunters Teased Mira’s Backstory

The story of KPop Demon Hunters reveals details about Mira’s past. She was a bit of a troublemaker who never quite fit into her seemingly perfect family, and she often argued with her parents. This led to a complete breakdown in their relationship, leaving her with deep emotional wounds. Mira craves connection but feels unworthy of love. She found a sense of belonging with Huntr/x, considering them her chosen family, which is why she was so upset to learn about Rumi’s hidden demonic markings. It felt like a betrayal, suggesting that even this new family could be as flawed as the one she left behind.
It’s unclear how Mira joined the Hunters, but sharp-eyed viewers have noticed a curious detail in KPop Demon Hunters: the disappearance of her brother. He’s visible in an early introduction photo, but doesn’t appear in later flashback scenes. Fans believe something happened to him – perhaps he was attacked by demons and even possessed – and that this event is what ultimately led Mira to become involved with the demon hunters.
Did Mira’s Brother Become Mystery?

Speculation about the Saja Boys continues, especially surrounding the member known as “Mystery.” His name suggests a hidden past, and many fans believe he’s more than meets the eye. Interestingly, Mystery wears the same earrings as Mira, and despite the ongoing conflict between Huntr/x and the Saja Boys, Mira and Mystery never clash directly. In fact, Zoey’s obvious crush on Mystery is what ultimately makes Mira angry.
Because of this, many fans think Mystery is actually Mira’s brother. The idea is that, like Jinu, Mystery ended up trapped in Gwi-Ma’s demon world and became one of Jinu’s Saja Boys. Mira keeps to herself, so she never revealed this, but her behavior hints at the truth. Unlike Rumi, she doesn’t believe demons can be saved, which would mean she sees Mystery as a cruel joke, a way for him to hurt her. This could be a key plot point for a possible sequel, KPop Demon Hunters 2.
KPop Demon Hunters Proved a Demon Can Be Redeemed

Ultimately, KPop Demon Hunters shows that Huntr/x doesn’t understand demons as well as they believed. A particularly good moment happens during a fight when Rumi questions whether a demon she’s battling is also trapped, realizing that if one demon can change and be saved, others might be able to as well. This idea is proven correct when Jinu sacrifices himself to save her, and in doing so, regains his own soul. This act opens the door to the possibility of redemption for demons, instead of simply focusing on destroying them.
If Mystery turns out to be Mira’s brother, the ending of the first movie dramatically changes everything. It suggests her loved one isn’t truly lost and could be rescued from Gwi-Ma’s control, which would create a strong foundation for a sequel. This would avoid repeating the plot of KPop Demon Hunters, where Huntr/x entered Gwi-Ma’s world to save someone. It would be a fantastic surprise, and could beautifully incorporate elements of Korean underworld mythology. If this theory is correct, the stage is already set for a perfect sequel focused on Mira.
