Top 10 Most Dangerous Saw Movie Traps Ranked

The Saw films are famous in the horror world for their brutal traps and memorable villain. Starting with the first movie in 2004, Saw has inspired numerous other horror projects. The franchise continues to be popular today, with new installments in 3D and spin-off films exploring the story of John Kramer.

The Saw movies have a complex and interconnected story that dedicated fans have pieced together, allowing them to pinpoint which ‘Jigsaw’ character designed each trap. But even if you don’t follow the detailed backstory, all the Saw films deliver a simple plot alongside incredibly gruesome and creative traps and torture devices – some of the most memorable in movie history.

The traps in the Saw movies have gotten increasingly complex over time. The original film featured simple tools like handsaws and handcuffs, but the newer movies now showcase incredibly elaborate and often unfair mechanical traps.

I’m really fascinated by the Saw movies, and what makes them so intense is that sometimes, it’s not just one person facing Jigsaw’s tests. In Saw 2, for example, a whole group had to cooperate to find the cures before the poison took effect. Honestly, every trap in these films feels genuinely life-threatening. Most of the victims don’t make it out alive, and the traps that really stick with you are the ones that tap into your deepest fears. It’s terrifying, but I can’t look away!

While all the traps in the Saw movies are designed to cause harm, here are some of the most memorable and terrifying ones, known for their gruesome and imaginative ways of killing people.

10. Candle Trap (Saw)

The Candle Trap isn’t a major part of the first movie, but it’s a truly disturbing and cruel scene, especially when you consider how little chance the person trapped has of surviving.

This terrible situation involves many difficult challenges. The victim is forced to open a safe located in the center of a dark room. The combination is visible, written in red on the walls, but the room is completely black. To reach the safe, the victim, who is barefoot, has to carefully navigate across a floor covered in broken glass.

To make matters worse, the person trapped has only a candle for light and is covered in a highly flammable substance. A single slip-up could cause them to burst into flames, and that’s not even considering the pain of navigating the dangerous course.

9. Reverse Bear Trap (Saw)

With so many elaborate traps throughout the Saw movies, the Reverse Bear Trap from the very first film remains one of the most memorable. It’s a simple but deadly device, and the audience witnesses a demonstration of its power before Amanda accidentally triggers it.

The Reverse Bear Trap is a gruesome device attached to a person’s head and jaw. As the timer runs out, instead of closing, the trap’s metal jaws spread apart, tearing the head open.

The Reverse Bear Trap stands out in the Saw franchise because it’s one of the few traps where the victim lives through the ordeal. While not the most elaborate or complex trap, it’s designed to be fatal if the person caught in it can’t free themselves quickly enough.

8. Needle Pit (Saw II)

The needle pit trap in Saw 2 is incredibly frightening, and surprisingly dangerous beyond the immediate threat. Even if someone survives, they could later succumb to infections from the contaminated needles.

In Saw II, Amanda is forced to enter the Needle Pit, a trap consisting of a deep hole filled with used syringes. The film’s central conflict revolves around a group of people trapped in a house, slowly being poisoned by a deadly gas. They must race against time to find the antidote and escape.

Adding to the shock value, Amanda has a history of addiction, which is powerfully portrayed in the Saw films. Her desperate fight for survival in the pit is one of the most unsettling moments in the series, made even more disturbing by the fact that she was placed there instead of someone else.

7. The Furnace (Saw II)

The latest Saw film reinforces that complex traps aren’t always the most threatening. This time, the trap is straightforward but terrifying: a massive furnace capable of burning anything placed inside.

Similar to the first Saw film, the victims in Saw 2 find themselves trapped in a house filled with deadly traps, all while trying to find a cure for a poisonous gas. The antidote consists of two syringes hidden inside a furnace, but a dangerous catch exists: taking both syringes at once will cause the furnace door to lock shut.

Flames spread into the room, and the person trapped can only survive by turning a valve on the furnace as it’s consumed by fire. It’s a slow and agonizing ordeal, and even escaping leaves you with terrible injuries.

6. The Pound Of Flesh Trap (Saw VI)

Okay, so I just witnessed something truly disturbing. This new trap, “The Pound of Flesh,” is a straight-up nightmare. It’s a competition where players are literally fighting for their lives, and the stakes are… well, let’s just say it involves a mechanical helmet and screws dangerously close to their skulls. The concept is simple – you save yourself by balancing scales – but the execution is brutally effective. It’s a terrifying test of will, and honestly, pretty hard to watch. Not for the faint of heart!

In Saw VI, the characters are forced to cut off parts of their own bodies and place them on scales. The person who sacrifices the most flesh will be spared. In one particularly gruesome scene, a man cuts flesh from his abdomen, while his opponent, who is much thinner, amputates her own arm in a desperate attempt to survive.

The situation is incredibly harsh, and even if someone manages to survive, they could still die from losing too much blood.

5. 10 Pints Of Sacrifice (Saw V)

10 Pints of Sacrifice is a challenging trap that demands good teamwork. It’s often the last step in a series of team challenges, and players must collectively donate 10 pints of blood to unlock the exit and complete it.

The traps in Saw V are more complex than in some of the other films, because the characters could have survived if they had worked together and shared the damage from earlier traps. By the time they reach the final trap, ’10 Pints of Sacrifice,’ only two people remain. To survive, each one must donate five pints of blood by placing their hands inside a box containing a circular saw.

What really struck me was how intensely stressful it was – a truly gripping challenge that just kept building. And honestly, it felt even more daunting knowing the team hadn’t quite clicked in the earlier parts of the experience. It was like everything was stacked against us!

4. Pendulum Trap (Saw V)

The pendulum trap in Saw V is particularly complex and brutal compared to others. The victim is secured to a table with their arms held loosely in place, making it especially agonizing and risky.

As the trap springs to life, a massive blade begins to swing back and forth directly over the person’s stomach. They can stop the blade by reaching up and flipping switches, but each switch activates a clamp that slowly tightens around their hands.

The scene in Saw V is incredibly harsh, resulting in severe injuries no matter what the victim does. This particular trap, designed by Mark Hoffman, was impossible to escape.

3. Classroom Trap (Saw III)

It’s questionable if Amanda’s challenges deserve to be called truly dangerous. Many are impossible to beat, which technically makes them dangerous, but let’s set that aside. Even ignoring the fact that the Classroom’s door was sealed shut, it still stands out as a particularly difficult trap.

In Saw 3, one character faces a particularly agonizing trap. He’s chained to a nail bomb with a ticking clock, and the chains are embedded in his skin. To survive, he has to pull each chain out, which causes immense pain.

The man doesn’t succeed because he’s unable to pull a final chain free from his jaw before the bomb goes off. Even if the door hadn’t been sealed, this trap is noteworthy due to the extremely short timer on the explosive, forcing the person caught in it to essentially destroy themselves trying to get out.

2. The Brazen Bull (Saw 3D)

The furnace from Saw 2 was already a standout trap, and rightfully so, because fire is incredibly dangerous. But Saw 3D includes a trap that’s even more horrific, prolonging the victim’s suffering in a particularly cruel manner.

The last trap in Saw 3D involved one person stuck on a metal platform with no way out. To stop the trap, another person had to painfully hook themselves and climb to the ceiling. If they failed, the walls would close in on the person on the platform, slowly burning them alive.

As a fan, I have to say the Brazen Bull trap is just brutal. Seeing someone helpless and forced to suffer such a terrible fate is really disturbing. And what makes it even worse in Saw 3D is the implication that the other person involved might not have a chance either – it just amps up the hopelessness and makes the whole thing even more terrifying.

1. The Rack (Saw III)

Okay, let’s be real, as a long-time follower of the Saw series, I had a feeling this one would be particularly brutal, and I wasn’t wrong. The ‘Rack’ is easily one of the most terrifying and disturbing traps Jigsaw’s ever concocted. It’s shockingly cruel, and what makes it even more chilling is that it’s one of Amanda’s creations – leaving the victims with virtually no hope of escape. It’s a truly bleak and agonizing device.

The Rack is a brutal torture device, similar to the Brazen Bull, that requires two people to operate. A victim is secured with tight restraints around their limbs and neck. The machine then systematically twists each limb until it breaks, eventually leading to death.

Someone else could have gotten the key to save the victim, but it was positioned directly in front of a loaded shotgun. The shotgun was set to fire if anyone tried to take it. As seen in Saw 3, Jeff manages to survive the blast and get the key, but the trap is designed so unfairly that the person tied up dies before they can escape.
