Travis Kelce & Colin Jost Bond Over Being “Less Famous” Than Partners

Travis Kelce and Colin Jost know exactly how to fit into the lives of their showgirls.

The NFL player and Saturday Night Live cast member don’t seem bothered by comparisons to their famous partners, Taylor Swift and Scarlett Johansson.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce bonded with Colin, 43, over their shared experience of being a ‘plus one’ – someone accompanying a celebrity partner to events.

On a recent episode of their podcast, New Heights, Travis Kelce jokingly asked Colin Jost, the host of “Weekend Update,” what it’s like to be the less well-known partner. Jost responded with a simple, “Huge relief. Really.”

Colin, who married Scarlett in 2020, playfully mentioned they could relate to each other because of their famous spouses. The athlete responded with a laugh, saying he was happy to support Colin.

Even though Scarlett is more famous than Colin, he’s surprisingly approached by fans more often than she is.

He chuckled, explaining that people seem more likely to approach him than his wife. He thinks being on television makes him seem familiar and accessible – like a friendly face they see in their homes – so they feel comfortable saying hello.

The comedian, who shares 4-year-old son Cosmo with Scarlett Johansson, explained that his wife is so well-known it can be surprising for fans to process when they actually meet her.

Colin described a recent experience where, while going through passport control, the officer noticed a resemblance between the traveler and Scarlett Johansson. He said the officer commented, ‘You know, someone should tell you, you look just like Scarlett Johansson!’

He really didn’t seem to notice, even while looking right at her,” he explained. “He thought it would be even stranger if she were the one doing it.”

Yet, from his point of view, Colin admitted, “It’s really kind of awesome.”

 

However, Scarlett’s fame has one drawback: Colin shared a strange thing that happens when they’re out in public.

He also pointed out that whenever they order food, there’s always a mistake. When she orders, staff often recognize her, get distracted, and forget to write down the order correctly. As a result, the sandwich is always made with the wrong ingredients – nothing is ever right when they open it.

He added, “It’s really funny. It’s bread and just, like, a pickle.”

 

Colin mentioned that, on top of issues with getting his food orders right, being married to the Black Widow actress also presents some funny difficulties.

As a comedian, I used to write jokes about dating and marriage. But I realized I couldn’t make typical jokes about marital complaints – like a wife nagging – because audiences would immediately react negatively. It basically removed that whole topic from my act.
