Universal Studios Japan has long celebrated the world of anime, featuring attractions and dedicated areas for popular series like Attack on Titan, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Hunter x Hunter. Recently, the theme park has faced some controversy regarding cosplay outfits worn by visitors. The issue has become significant enough that Universal Studios Japan has released an official statement addressing concerns about certain revealing costumes.
I’ve been following the whole Bowsette cosplay trend – it’s been huge online for years! But it seems all the attention led to a bit of a situation at Universal Studios Japan. They recently put out a statement clarifying their cosplay rules. Basically, they’re happy to see people dressed up, but they need to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable. So, outfits that are too revealing, offensive, or break the peace just aren’t allowed, and they might ask you to leave. It all started because someone’s amazing Bowsette cosplay went viral back in October – you can check it out here if you’re curious!
Anime’s Universal Studios Takeover

Anime fans in North America haven’t yet experienced the same level of celebration at Universal Studios as fans in Japan. However, Universal Studios in the West has started to acknowledge the growing popularity of anime, recently hosting special fan nights for One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. While Universal hasn’t announced plans for dedicated anime areas like those for Super Mario, How to Train Your Dragon, and Harry Potter, these events demonstrate anime’s increasing mainstream appeal.
Universal Studios Japan is gearing up for a major event in 2026, bringing the popular anime The Apothecary Diaries to life! Starting in January, guests can enjoy a special attraction called “The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk: A Dose of Deception,” complete with unique food and merchandise. Universal promises a year full of immersive experiences, saying it will be bigger than anything fans have seen before. The attraction itself is a mystery that visitors can help solve alongside the main characters, Maomao and Jinshi, using an investigation booklet. Those who complete the mystery will even receive a special message from Maomao and Jinshi! With a third season of the anime and a movie planned for next year, 2026 is set to be a huge year for The Apothecary Diaries and its beloved characters.
