Valve Shares New Update on Steam Deck 2 Development

Valve recently gave an update on the progress of the next Steam Deck. Although the Steam Machine is their main focus right now, Valve also plans to release a new version of the Steam Deck eventually. A Valve designer shared some early details, but confirmed the device is still a ways off from being released.

Valve programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais recently told IGN that development of the Steam Deck 2 is ongoing, with the team continuing to work hard on it. However, he didn’t share any information about when the new hardware might be released. Griffais also mentioned that Valve is using lessons learned from previous products like the Steam Controller and Steam Machine to help shape the next Steam Deck.

According to Griffais, they’re actively developing new products. He explained that their current projects, like the Steam Deck and recent announcements, are a direct continuation of their previous work with the Steam Controller and Steam Machine. They anticipate that the development of Steam Deck 2 will follow a similar pattern, building on the knowledge and experience gained from these ongoing efforts.

While many are looking forward to the Steam Deck 2, it likely won’t be available for at least two years. Valve’s experience with the Steam Machine suggests this timeline. The Steam Machine faced significant delays due to RAM shortages, which dramatically increased production costs and ultimately led to its indefinite postponement. Similar component shortages are still happening, and they could easily impact Valve’s ability to produce and release the Steam Deck 2 as well.

Valve will probably keep sharing updates about the Steam Deck 2 as development continues, giving fans an idea of what to expect. We’ll share any new hardware details with you right here on ComicBook as soon as we learn them.
