‘We’ll Share More When We’re Ready’: Xbox Wants to Make the ‘Right Decision’ on Exclusivity and PS5

We recently discussed how often Xbox executives are giving interviews, and now there’s yet another one!

So, the new CEO, Asha Sharma, just spoke and hinted that they’re rethinking their strategy with exclusive games. She wasn’t willing to share many details yet, saying it’s still early days, but it’s definitely something we’re keeping an eye on as gamers!

Speaking with journalist Stephen Totilo’s GameFile, she explained:

We’ll be using data and strategy to guide our decisions, keeping our core principles in mind. We’ll share more details as soon as we’re able.

When asked for a deadline, she explained she doesn’t want to rush important decisions that will affect things for the next ten years, and she’s not prepared to give a specific timeframe yet. She also pointed out that she’s only been in her position for about two months.

It raises the question: why do the interview in the first place?

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has often stated the company aims to have its games available on all platforms. Just over six months ago, Halo Studios confirmed that Master Chief will indeed be playable on PlayStation 5 for the time being.

The plan’s the plan until it’s not the plan, eh?

We expect Sharma will need several months to reach a decision, but that shouldn’t affect the planned release dates for games like Fable and Forza Horizon 6.

She’ll definitely do a lot of interviews – maybe just a couple, or possibly many more – before she reaches a final decision.
