After their split in April, Abbey and her ex seem to have a friendship more like Timon and Pumba – just casual buddies – rather than a romantic connection like Simba and Nala. Abbey herself has hinted at this dynamic.

She explained to Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday on their May 21st podcast, Tea Time, that she and David had redefined their relationship. Instead of dating, they now consider themselves best friends, and she feels she’s grown significantly over the last four and a half years.

She continued, “Without David, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He was a good start.”

Now starting a fresh phase of her life, the 28-year-old is hoping to approach it with the same attitude as a famous musician.

“Being single ladies, like Beyoncé said,” Abbey added. “It feels amazing.”

Even though she’s going through a very public breakup – she and David were a popular couple from the show Love on the Spectrum – she’s finding comfort in sayings her family always believed in.

You know, I always loved those simple reminders Abbey used to share. She’d often say, ‘If I can do this, so can you!’ It’s so true – believing in yourself is half the battle. And she was a big believer in practice, too. She’d always say the more you put in the effort, the more natural and easy things become.
