With The Mandalorian and Grogu doing respectable if not stellar box office business we thought we would take a look at just who is in the Mandalorian costume. Though the film credits Pedro Pascal in the role the that sees all Mandalorian’s live by a strict creed (summed up by the phrase “This is the way”), which involves never removing their helmets out of fear of banishment.

So just who is in the Mandalorian costume?

So it’s for that reason that it is not Pascal in the costume a lot of the time. With the role being something of a softly spoken Clint Eastwood type ‘man-with-no-name its actor Brendan Wayne behind the mask who has famous ancestry in westerns namely that his grandfather was the inimitable John Wayne. Brendan Wayne auditioned for the role back in 2018 for the TV series. In fact his knowledge of the western saw him suggesting that the rifle be shorter and for a holster to be added to the suit also which director Jon Favreau duly took on board.

And there’s another!

Interestingly, stuntman Lateef Crowder also wears the Mandalorian armor – specifically during action scenes like gunfights and the fight with the space serpent in the Hutt clan’s hideout.

It can be tricky to tell who’s inside the Mandalorian suit – Pascal, Wayne, or Crowder – but there’s a key difference with Wayne. He has a longer neck, which creates more space between the cowl and cape. Crowder, being broader and more muscular with dreadlocks, fills out the 62-pound costume more, causing the cape to sit higher. This makes the suit appear fuller when he’s wearing it for those long, 13-hour days!
