Why Margot Robbie’s Met Gala 2026 Dress Took Chanel 761 Hours

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Margot Robbie‘s Met Gala 2026 dress.

The actress from Wuthering Heights looked stunning in a gold gown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4th. Although the dress appeared simple, Vogue reports it actually took 761 hours to create.

Chanel’s shimmering, strapless gown was incredibly detailed, featuring 1,100 individual embroidered decorations. The dramatic effect was largely due to the rows of lamé feathers that decorated the long train, worn by Margot.

While it’s not certain Margot will attend the Met Gala this year—she last went in 2023—fans generally expect her to wear Chanel, as she’s a brand ambassador for the designer.

Oh my gosh, getting to wear Chanel is just… a dream come true! I remember Margot Robbie saying it was such an honor at the Met Gala, the one celebrating Karl Lagerfeld. She looked absolutely stunning in a vintage gown Cindy Crawford originally wore back in ’93! She even shared that she actually got to know Karl a little, which is just… I can’t even! The Met is always amazing, but to have that connection? It’s everything!

Margot’s outfit for this year’s “Costume Art” event was a simple gold look, a departure from the elaborate costumes she wore earlier in 2026 while promoting her film. To publicize the movie—which also starred popular Australian actor Jacob Elordi—Margot had showcased a number of stunning outfits.

One of the highlights of the January 28th movie premiere was the stunning 17th-century Taj Mahal diamond, famously owned by Elizabeth Taylor, which Margot Robbie wore. She explained to TopMob News that they chose the piece because of its rich history, and that Cartier had restrung it as a necklace.

That refers to Elizabeth Taylor’s well-known, often turbulent relationship with her husband of eleven years, Richard Burton.

Margot Robbie understands classic jewelry, but she also isn’t afraid to go with a minimalist look. For Anna Wintour’s ‘Fashion Is Art’ event, she chose a simple neckline and elegant, classic diamond chandelier earrings.
